5101  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 12" Crochet Square of the Month Craftalong - STARTED! on: October 03, 2006 04:09:29 PM
I decided that since others are having a problem with the gauge on the 'easy' square, I better try it and see what I could come up with.  According to my conversion charts, an I hook is 5.5 mm - unfortunately I lost my hook that size and since I tend to crochet rather tight, I decided to try a 6.00 hook.  Well, by round 5 I could already tell that my square was going to be way too large so I ripped it all out and started over.  I decided to try a 5.00 hook and crochet less tight and I now have a 12" square.

It seems to me that a lot depends on your tension.

Hopefully not all squares will give us this much difficulty!  I think, for the next squares I pick, I'm going to try them ahead to see what works for me and then mention that along with the patterns when I post them.

Well, I didn't make posting this before the end of the month but at least I had the satisfaction of knowing it was done by then.

I chose not to go with fall colors because, as I said last month, I needed more color in my quilt!

Now, on to tackle October's square.

So far, I have received two wonderful packages during this swap.

This first, from Brihene, included 2 dishclothes (only 1 is pictured because the other was put to immediate use), 3 pens and some very yummy candy.

and the other was from BklynGal.  She sent 3 crochet squares (all lovely), 3 pieces of material and more yummy candy!

Thank you ladies for helping to make my birthday special!

Here's my coffee cup from Pimpernel Smith. It's perfect because I was just told by another teacher that I'd look older (and the kids would take me more seriously) if I started carrying around a coffee cup.  Roll Eyes

I was going to say - Older?? you don't look much older than my sons.  Then I checked your profile and realized you aren't much older!

Great job Amethyst!  I'm so happy to see a picture already  Grin

There is a mistake in the address.  Here's the correct one:

I made the star/flower one, and started over once because it was all wavy. Now I've done it again and it lays flat. I love it, but when I measured, it was only 9.5", not 12".

All the times I made mine, they came out to 12" when I used the right hook.  If you can't find the right hook, try crocheting looser.

Well, I couldn't wait any longer and since it's my thread, I decided to post a day early  Grin

These are the squares I have picked for the month of October:

Easy:

Experienced:

www.geocities.com/cdjsimon/birthday_flower.html

I have never made the easy one (but plan to) so if you find any problems, be sure to share them.  I have made the experienced one a few times and really like it.  If you want more challenge, be sure to make it with 3 colors.

I am planning to also post each month's patterns on the first page so you can check there the first of each month or if someone starts during another month, they will know what we have done in the past!

Remember to post pictures here when you are finished your square(s)

5109  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Ongoing Wish Swap 14 on: September 30, 2006 07:27:33 AM
I claim gavagai for:

Nice quality (just normal quality really) thread for sewing machines, fancy like rainbow or metallic, or just ordinary thread of different colours. Please no cotton.

This is my 5th claim (2 have been received and 2 sent)

I'm in Alberta, Canada.

Sewing

A tablecloth (70" x 50") with a snowflake, sunflower or leaf themed fabric.

I'd love a plush teddy bear - around 12" would be great!

A butcher style apron (adult large) with no pockets (see my likes below for fabric ideas.)

A knitting apron like this:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/msg971894 but with different fabric.

9x13 cake pan carrier, with handles

Quilting

12” squares for a craftster quilt - I like pretty rather than creepy - any colors or patterns are fine but if you need ideas, check out this website:  http://www.quilterscache.com/BlocksbySizeC.html

Crochet

Eeyore, Pooh or Tigger crocheted in thread - I already have Piglet and he's getting lonely for his friends.  (I can supply the pattern)

Other

A t-shirt (man's x-large) with an M&M character stenciled on the front (it's for my hubby who loves M&Ms)

I like watches that have 'fun' designs on the face or in the band.

Something from your country (preferrably not Canada or the US.)

If you want to throw in an extra with any of the above wishes, I'm looking for pens with cool, wacky designs on them.  The more outlandish they are, the less likely someone is to steal them when I work!

I have themes in my house each season so I like things made with sunflowers, tulips, scarecrows, snowmen or snowflakes.  I also like dark green and dark blue.

5110  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Re: Swan (amigurumi?) on: September 29, 2006 08:37:23 PM
I think its just called a stuffed animal Cheesy haha

Oh sure, burst my bubble   Embarrassed

I've had a gazillion 'stuffed animals' in my life and not one of them has been made of crochet, so I say it's an amigurumi  Grin
