4961  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Tic-Tac-Toe Anyone? on: March 28, 2007 06:30:51 AM

I love two tone quilts and the square pieces make it a modern bit of wall art - would definatly hang it on a wall here.

Smiley  When I first showed it to my son, without the playing pieces and asked if he knew what it was, he said 'It's a window' and then when I told him what it really was, he thought it was a neat idea and wanted to play right away.

I love your tic tac toe board, how big is it?

I meant to put that in my original post - the board is 14" x 14".

Here's the story behind this game quilt:

I'd been trying and trying to find something to make for this challenge since it was announced but had little success.  I went through all the games in our house (which are many) seeing if I could make something work and finally I decided I couldn't so I wouldn't enter.  But, I've seen that up until a few days ago there weren't any entries and that bothered me but still I could think of nothing.  Well, last night I was working on another quilt project and after I laid it all out, I gave it a good look over and wondered if there was any way to make it my entry.  I thought maybe, if I really stretched my imagination, it could be a tic-tac-toe board and then a light bulb went off in my head  Shocked  Why not make one!

So, I laid in bed last night figuring it out and before falling asleep I had a plan.  I woke early and decided I better get my pattern down on paper:

As you can see, it took me all of 3 minutes to do that!

Then I started working on the project:

and what I thought was going to be very easy, turned a little tricky as I tried to line up all the intersections to be an exact match:

But, after some tearing out and re-sewing, I finally matched things up to my satisfaction and in a few hours, I had a brand new tic-tac-toe board:

Just to prove it is actually a 'real' quilt, here's a picture of the back, showing the quilting I did:

However, you can't play without playing pieces so that meant a trip to the craft store to purchase some fun foam.  I wasn't up to making the traditional X's and O's this morning, so I made different colored squares.  My son and I played the inaugural game:

which went to the cat (don't know why it's called that but I remember when I was a kid and we played this game, we kpet three scores, one for each player and the ties went to the cat.)  However, I (the purple squares) won the second game!

And thus ends the story of the creation of my Tic-Tac-Toe Board  Grin

so crochet stitch markers can be made with earring hooks?!

I've received 3 sets of them this month and 2 sets were made from earrings, some that closed and some that didn't.  I think it's a great way to make them.

It seems that sheva's little house actually made it to the correct destination today!

Only one more package to be received and we can wrap this up.

I received 2 packages today.

The first was from Dulcinea and she sent 2 Hardy Boy books for my son's collection.  THANKS!!!!  By mutual agreement, I'm not going to post pictures since they are just books!

And, from raynbow, I received this wonderful box of yarn, that was stuffed full (there's a bottom layer you can't see)!

I so was not going to make another claim for this round but after looking over K8's list for the last 2 days, I finally caved and so I'm going to claim her for:

22. a stack of fabric bits/square/strips. small pieces are fine, but they need to be 100% cotton. colours and prints based on my likes/wist

This is my 6th claim (3 have been received and 2 are in the mail).

My brand new list - it's very short and if it stalls, I'll try and add more.  This is a supplies list and so I hope someone can find something to send me  Grin

1.  Any cotton fabric with craft related theme - buttons, yarns, thread, scissors, measuring tapes - minimum 1/2 yard please.

2.  Sewing thread in the following colors:  black, white, navy blue, purple, yellow

3.  Orange cotton fabric that's not too girly.  I'm starting to collect fabric to make my oldest son a quilt and orange is his favorite color - FQ minimum/piece, please

4.  Quilting Calendar - the block a day kind - I know it's almost April but I'd still be happy to get one of these, I can look back over the past few months  Grin

5.  Any bright cotton fabric with small designs on it - flowers, geometric, etc. - FQ minimum/piece, please

6.  Cotton fabric with trumpets and/or clarinets on it - 1/2 yard minimum, please

7.  Laurel Burch's Hearts and Hummingbirds fabric in lavendar - 1/2 yard minimum, please

I know most people would put down "anything from my wist," but for this time, I'd like to say, please don't pick from my wist list as I'd really like to get something from the above list instead.  However, I do have an example of #4, 6 and 7 on there for reference.
