4952  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Heart Teddy on: February 12, 2007 05:43:20 PM
This is the first teddy bear I have ever made and while I am fairly happy with it, I will being doing a few things different when I make the next one (like stuffing the ears which I forgot to do and connecting the legs/arms differently.)

                                       PHOTO removed

I connected the legs/arms by sewing through buttons located on the inside of the body and each appendage - if anyone would like to share a better, less floppy way of attaching these, PLEASE do so.

I made one of these bears today and it went much better than I thought.  I found that all my pieces matched fine.  My only challenges were figuring out how the muzzle worked (the part not attached to the face) and attaching the arms/legs.  I used the button method where you sew a button on the inside of the leg/arm and inside the body - I don't think I will do this again as I don't like how floppy they are - I'll have to find a better way to do them.  Now I can't wait for the material from this swap to arrive so I can make another one!

We only have one package left to be received and then this swap is finished.  I'm going to organize the next round and I'll probably open for sign ups in about 2 weeks.  I'll post a link here and on the OTT 10 main thread when I've opened them so you all will know about it.

One item left to be received and we are finished!  I'm so happy with how this swap went being the first time I have organized one.  I am going to organize the next round and will probably start sign ups within two weeks.  I'll post a link here when I do start it.

I have one of these cut and really want to make it before this swap starts but just haven't brought myself to do it yet because I'm still now sure how to go about it (mainly attaching the arms and legs) but this:

I can't show you a pic of him stuffed because he is going through the post so she is going to stuff and sew him closed after she recieves him.

leads me to another question - is the idea that you stuff the entire thing after it's made and then sew it closed?

I have yet to attach the magnets at the back -- will need to find some that are strong enough.

You need to get earth magnets - they would be strong enough - we have some and they are fantastic!

How about a hat FOR an animal?  Like, say, if I made my kitty a hat?  JW.....

The 'rules' on page 1 say it can be for an animal:

The hat can be shaped like an animal, have animlals on it, for an animal,

Very nice looking quilt!

I read crabby's post about the bears and thought 'what bears' but after a second, closer look, I spotted them!
