4861  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: 2007 Color Craft-A-Long on: January 03, 2007 09:45:53 AM
Oh, this sounds like fun and I think I'm going to join in.

Let me ask a few questions just so I understand things:

1)  Can we craft anything as long as it falls into the color scheme for the month (ie, crochet, quilt, knit, bead, etc.)?

2)  The picture posting has me confused - we can post January's pictures up to the 7th of February, is that correct?

4862  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: 2007 Quilt Blocks of the Month? on: January 03, 2007 09:36:37 AM
I'd be interested but I'm still working on trying to finish the 2006 quilt block of the month craft-a-long.  These craft-a-longs don't have to run from January to December so maybe you would get more interest if you started in a few months.

If you did wear it, I am betting you would definately make yourself known!!!

Imagine the strange tan marks it would make too!

This is much more fun than functional and not anything I would personally wear but it was still fun to make.

I used Christmas ribbon and a size 6.0 hook.  I had planned to make it all gold but ran out of ribbon before the second 1/2 was finished, thus it became a multi-colored bikini top.

4865  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Too young to be a quilter? on: January 03, 2007 07:38:12 AM
Oh my, you can never be too young to quilt!  My friends 11 year old daughter made a fantastic quilt last summer!

I'm in my 40s and while I've never had comments about my quilting, I do run into comments about crocheting.  I've had to deal with the granny comments a number of times but I just brush them off and go on with my work.  What I find funny is that those that make the granny comments are also the ones that ohh and ahh the most when they see an afghan I give away as a baby gift!

Fantastic job Deb!  Don't know why I didn't see this earlier, like when you first posted it  Grin

I don't think it's too girly - I would certainly have used it for my sons when they were younger.

I've seen this pattern before but it didn't impress me because of the colors used but now that I see what it can look like with better colors, I will have to give it a try.

Very nice - I didn't realize tulle would work up so nice.

I better decide what I'm going to make with what I have to crochet with  Grin

have a quick question about the easy October square: what does dc around hdc mean?  I know the dc and hdc bit, but how do you dc around anything?

Here's the discussion we had earlier in this post about the same topic - hopefully it will explain things to you!

Quote from: amdm
at the end of the first round you made 1 hdc into the 3rd of beginning 3 ch. That hdc formed a loop, which is the corner of the square. You insert your hook into that loop. Hope this helps.

So, you insert the hook INTO the loop and finish your dc and you have now gone around the hdc.

Great job!  I understand not wanting to give it away - that's how I am with most quilts I make  Grin

Wonderful! and what a lot of work - I've made one of these squares and I thought it was intensive and you made a whole quilt out of them.  Your nephew is one lucky boy!
