12  Oh Canada in Quilting: Completed Projects by Homerof2 on: June 28, 2015 08:10:50 PM
Just in time for Canada Day, July 1st, I finished a small wall quilt.  It was heavily inspired by a pattern I saw online but since I could not purchase it locally and it was smaller than I wanted, I made up my own.  This is 10 x 28.

My attraction to this idea was the red and white so I used just one maple leaf

We don't usually use stars to represent Canada but it was another way to use red and white material

a special star to represent crafting

and a heart just because I like hearts

14  Yellow, Green, Flowers and a White Pelican in Quilting: Completed Projects by Homerof2 on: May 07, 2015 01:40:23 PM
I offered to make a wall quilt for my mom and asked for suggestions of colors and themes.  Thinking she would just tell me to make whatever I wanted, I was quite surprised when she came back with specifics.

She wanted me to use Green and Yellow, Flowers and a White Pelican.  She said her and Dad decided they should give me a challenge so got specific with the bird.

The measurements are 31" x 11" - strange dimensions but when you aren't working from a pattern, that's what happens.

Much thought went into this project, the most being how to fit a Pelican in.  I found a picture online of a pieced pelican and based my pattern on that.  Not wanting to applique the Pelican, I used the pot material and then cut it to shape.

I wasn't sure if she wanted flowers in the project or just on the material so I covered all my bases.  I had some large floral print fabric so cut these out and made them dimensional by not fully attaching them to the quilt.

My 10th finish for the year is another small project.  A puzzle shaped mug rug for a swap with another group.

I received from A2K on Wednesday and took pictures but realized just now I forgot to post them, oops!  I absolutely love everything she sent!!!

Two beautiful wall quilts that are hanging on my craft room door.

Some fabric, tea towel, quilt pattern, post it notes and cute sewing/quilting charms on a butterfly pin.

An amazing reusable grocery bag made from a bird feed sack!!!

A2K and I swapped once before in 2008 and I still have many of the items she made then and I know years from now I'll still be using what she sent for this swap.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

20  Black and White and Red Hearts in Quilting: Completed Projects by Homerof2 on: March 31, 2015 07:16:26 AM
I've had a table runner similar to this on my 'to make' list for quite some time.  When I saw that my partner in the Geezer Swap had the same one pinned, I knew what I was making.  I now know that wasn't a smart idea as it was very hard to part with.  The creator of the runner this is based on is unknown to me, as it's just a photo, so I can't give credit where it's due.  This hanging is about 14" x 30".

and a couple close ups
