No I haven't visited that one. What city is it in?
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: my cross stitch for charity...a photo and copyright question. on: March 07, 2006 04:32:52 PM
Hate to be the watchdog but it is illegal to stitch a copyrighted design for a fundraiser. Visit http://www.yarntree.com/066copyr.htm for more information about needlework copyrights.

"Without the designers' permission, you can not use their design to make stitched items to sell at craft shows, bazaars, fund-raisers, etc."

Since the auction is for a good cause maybe you could just email the designer to their permission. You might even get a nice email back to include with the design when you auction it off.

I've used both nationwidecolor.com and www.1classprinting. com
1classprinting is good for flyers too!

5  UNITED STATES / Iowa / I'm from Ames! on: March 06, 2006 09:32:28 PM
Hi I live and work in Ames. Its unfortunate that we don't have any independant cross stitch stores here but we do have a knitting store in campus town called the Rose Tree Fiber shop, a Hobby Lobby and a Michaels.
6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: crafts to put in an easter basket? on: March 06, 2006 09:24:37 PM
This is really easy but when I worked at JCPenny's in college we would make bunnies out of washcloths. You just roll the washcloth up, fold the roll in half and then bend the two outside edgesin half again over the top. Tie a ribbon around the whole thing and the end will stick up like bunny ears. You could use anything you think you friends need socks, dishtowels, to fill in your baskets.

i have an 18 month old so I would suggest: burp cloths (a friend made us four or five, shaped like an eight and lined to stay in place-Dads use alot so they don't get drool or spit up on them!) lap pads, wall hanging for babies room?, one of those ribbon blankets with differnt textures sewn around the outside, covers for the changing pad...everyone gives you a blanket but we enjoyed the larger ones we could use later when our daughter was bigger and older.
8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Looking for this on: February 28, 2006 07:26:58 PM
They sell those needlework cards at yarntree.com They are tri-fold with either an oval, rectangle or heart cut-out. They are the wholesale distributor so you have to look through the state listing to find the store near you that carries the product. If you don't have a store within 60 miles they will sell direct.
9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Keeping it neat... on: February 28, 2006 07:22:33 PM
There is a cross stitch calculator at yarntree.com  http://www.yarntree.com/java/xstitchcal.htm that you can enter your stitch count or fabric count and then it will tell you the total size of your project, which # needle you should use and how many strands of floss of floss to use.

Also starting your thread with the loop method will make your stitching look neater. If using two strands, cut your floss twice as long, put the two ends through the needle and then through the fabric leaving a loop on the underneath. Thread through the loop on your first stitch and pull tight. This way you don't have to worry about hiding the strands on the back.
10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: onesie help? on: February 26, 2006 08:36:11 PM
For cross stitch there is a product called waste canvas. You iron it on and then after stitching on say a t-shirt you wash it and the material disintegrates. Maybe there is a product like this for embroidery?
