Very cute!
12  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Dumbo Octopus Ornament on: November 18, 2011 08:12:35 AM
Last year, I was subbing a marine biology class and they were watching a video about the animals in the deepest parts of the ocean.  That is when I say the cutest chephalopod ever.  The Grimpoteuthis is called the Dumbo Octopus because of the large fins on the top of its body/head.  They live deeper in the ocean than any other Octopus species.  I seriously spent the rest of the day doodling it.
This year I decided to make it an ornament.

Next up for the Dumbo Octopus, a large plushy!
13  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Felt Owl Ornaments on: November 14, 2011 01:16:02 PM
I used to doodle this owl on everything, so I decided I would make some ornaments out of the doodle.  I really like they are turning out, but I keep running out of ideas for colors.
This one is my favorite!

15  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Vintage and Folk Inspired Felt Ornaments on: November 07, 2011 03:10:58 PM
When Halloween was over and all my decorations had gone back into their rubbermade homes.  I sort of got sad, but then I remembered that I had less then a month before I put up my Christmas tree!  So I pulled out my felt a whipped up some ornaments.
First, I made a round ornament and it reminds me of the old vintage glass ornaments my grandparents put on their tree.  I loved this one so much I am going to make a set of four for my grandparents for Christmas.

I love the look of Russian nesting dolls so I made two of those using shisha mirrors as the center medalian.

16  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Yay, Zombie Pumpkin! on: October 31, 2011 12:49:23 PM
So I usually do detailed pumpkins, but they are always from a still from a movie or someone else's illustration.  This year I decided I wanted to make a pumpkin from my own drawing.  I was working on an embroidery project with these zombie girls and they ended up looking better on a pumpkin.

I added red paint to the pumpkin, because you cannot have zombies without blood.

I used a giant white pumpkin and I swear I will never use an orange pumpkin again.

It's been some years since I was far enough ahead on my costume to make something for the yard.   Plus, add in my somewhat irrational fear of power tools.  I have been planning on doing this for at least two years, and last week I finally got started and found a jigsaw volunteer.  I'm pretty excited with how it turned out, but I did get a little carried away with the details.

Here it sits in it's rightful place with the haunted dry cleaning on the door.

This is the Tim Burton drawing I worked off for my piece.
18  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / X-Men Felt Embroidered Barrettes on: October 17, 2011 05:25:46 AM
So I liked my superhero barrettes a lot, and then my friend said that she wanted a Psylocke barrette.  I then played with some felt and came up with a some X-Men barrettes from her requests.  They are quite fun to make because there are so many different colors with X-Men.

From left to right:  Cyclops, Storm, Iceman, Rogue, Psylocke, and Wolverine

Iceman is my favorite!  The colors are quite pretty.

After learning a new shisha stitch technique, I wanted to make a Wonder Woman barrette and figured out a way to make a 5 pointed star.  Once I found a way to make the star work I started a Captain America barrette.

I love the Captain America one the most.

I am working on a couple X-Men barrettes for a friend now and having a blast with this.
