1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Bookbinding supplies online... on: December 06, 2009 04:05:14 PM
I hope it's okay to ask this, but I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions for to find cheap bookbinding supplies online?  I recently made an album-bind enclosure for a portfolio, and I would like to make more.  Unfortunately, the nice linen bookbinding cloth I used was $12/yd.  I've done some googling, but as I'm new to bookbinding I thought I'd ask here for recommendations!
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Warm winter pea coat WITHOUT wool! Fabric suggestions? on: September 26, 2009 06:40:28 PM
Hello everyone.  I'm a vegan, and as such I don't eat, buy or wear anything with any animal products.  This includes leather, silk and wool.  I really like well-structured, tailored winter coats like pea coats.  I am a wimp in the cold, so I want something really warm and insulating.  Wool and animal fibers are best since they are made for keeping a body warm, but I'm hoping I can find an alternative.  I am more than willing to sew my own coat (but will also buy if you know of anything!)  I'd like to avoid polyester and polar fleece in favor of natural fibers, but not sure if that's possible.

I was also thinking I could make it in cotton (maybe a twill) or hemp and lining it, but I'm not sure how to line it for warmth, either.

ANY tips are greatly appreciated!  I've never sewn for warmth before.
3  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: 12 Days Of Christmas 2008 (Send Outs EXTENDED TO 12/11/08) on: December 15, 2008 11:38:29 PM
Just an update; I got day 12 and day 11 opened and I LOVE what I got!  The toys for my kitty (day 11) couldn't have come at a more perfect time, since my cat is bored out of her skull and without toys since I moved her back home.

Unfortunately my friend borrowed my camera and gave me the camera back, but not the charger.  So I'm working on finding one to borrow, but we're snowed in right now!  Portland is not the place to get around in right now :O
4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: 12 Days of Christmas 2008 Gallery on: December 14, 2008 11:24:48 AM
Oooh, lovely day 12s so far!  I opened mine today and it's an awesome calendar (12 months)!  I am super excited about using it Smiley Unfortunately my camera needs charging and I've things to do today so pics are forthcoming... hopefully this afternoon!

That totally sucks that packages have been stolen Sad

On the plus side, it's exciting to see everyone finishing!  I can't wait for the gallery Smiley

I'm done with 12-7 and I left them wrapped and ready to send out in Portland, and my mom is going to take it to the post office on Monday!

I keep forgetting things and have to constantly run out to the store to get more stuff.

I know  Angry  This keeps happening to me!  And I don't have a car so it's a big pain.

I'm finished with days 12-7 Cheesy Cheesy So I'll be sending those out soon unless I think I can pull the other days together in time to send all at once (it's looking vaguely possible-- I'll be getting day 4 done at Thanksgiving, so that just means day 1 & the rest of day 6 & maybe an edit to day 5 this week).

Kish, sorry for not PMing you and posting here, but I thought it might be good for everyone to know.  I'm 90% sure I won't need an extension, but I will contact you if I do think it might be that way.  As it is, I should finish on time.

Kish, I might be a little late on my day 1.  Would it be a big deal to send that one out separately?  I'm hoping to get it done this weekend, but if it doesn't happen, I probably won't have time until after finals... so that would put me at mid-December (I would ship priority to make sure it'd be there by Christmas).  Hopefully it doesn't come to that!  I'll try to start it tonight.

Luckily all of my other larges are done!

good luck DIYho.

and happy birthdayyyyy deadbathduckie!!! i think you're the third one that's had thier 21st birthday during this swap! hope you have fun.

i bought a box to send all my stuff in... my cats decided to have a hayday with all the wrapping stuff and unwrapped it all while i was at work Sad so i'm going to rewrap and put it in the box and than tape the box shut and hopefully send out soon.

I'm so excited!  I'm sorry I won't be able to send as early as you Sad  (Of course, it just means it'll taunt me longer.)  I don't think I'll make the Dec 1st deadline for everything, but we'll see!  I'm not too far away, but time is getting to be an even bigger issue.

Funny to hear about your cats, my cats got into my day 10, which I'd left in a rather precarious spot, and about half of it's ruined.  (It was not a nice moment for me or the cats when I found out what they'd done.)  I think I might scrap the whole day 10 and redo it.  We'll see!

I'm pretty much done with my day 3.  I need to _______ one of the items, but that shouldn't take long at all.

Also, I FINISHED MY DAY 5!  Well, I still have to buy one of the items (it's non-crafted and goes with the theme), but all the crafting is done Smiley I'm super happy with it, as it was my first time _______!

So let's see, it's just day 10 left to fix or redo, day 1 I haven't even started (yipes!), and redoing part of day 6.  It could be sent as-is, but it's definitely not pretty...

Oh here's an update on my progress:

Day 12: 12/12
Day 11: 7/11 (will be 11/11 by tonight!)
Day 10: 10/10
Day 9: 9/9
Day 8: 8/8
Day 7: 7/7
Day 6: 6/6 (I'm redoing part of these, though)
Day 5: 0/5
Day 4: 4/4
Day 3: 1/3
Day 2: 2/2
Day 1: 0/1

I'm still frettin' a bit on a larges, since I have three left.  I'm right now promising myself I'll get a large done tomorrow, or at least start!  Let's hope I can be true to that...
