1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / The Beatrice Scarf! on: December 17, 2010 04:58:24 PM
I was really wanting a new scarf that was bulky and warm, but also with a lace pattern. So I searched and searched and then I found it! The Beatrice scarf by Jane Richmond. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/beatrice-7
This was a quick knit. I think it had something to do with the super bulky yarn and size 17 needles, maybe  Wink
I believe I used size 15 needles just because that is what I had on hand and the yarn is Lion Brand Homespun in Dallas Grey.
I did have my first dye lot snafu. I have always read to check the dye lots of your yarns and I did, but unfortunately they were low on the color wanted and I was forced to buy one skein that was not from the dye lot of my other two skeins. The color is not off, it is the texture of the yarn that is. My first two skeins are soft and silky, but the third is rough. I am still happy with my scarf though  Cheesy And this was the first time I blocked acrylic yarn.

Someone on raverly added tassels to her Beatrice and I decided to do the same. I had just barely enough, I think I would have liked them a little more dense though.

come a little closer

2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Swallow Knuckle Ring on: December 17, 2010 04:37:21 PM
I made this ring as a gift for my sister for her birthday. I have no soldering abilities so everything is held together by jewelry wire. This is my first ring I have ever made and honestly I was really just winging (haha no pun intended) it, but I am happy with how it turned out. All the supplies I used to make this I got at Michael's.

Pow!

3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Paper Decor on: December 14, 2010 08:30:41 PM
I was on craftgawker the other day and came across this tutorial (http://sewsweetstitches.blogspot.com/2010/04/handmade-tissue-paper-flowers-and.html) on tissue paper pom poms. I decided to make some big ones for my room and made three, but now I want to make a lot more and just cover my room in them Cheesy I was originally going to hang them from the ceiling as they were in the tutorial, but decided to put them on the wall instead. Then I remembered that a long time ago I had made garlands of these paper spinner thingys so I added them to the pom poms. I had hung the garlands from my ceiling, but they kept falling down Undecided I made a lot of the individual pieces, but only strung 3 garlands. I still want to hang them from my ceiling, but am not sure what is the best way. Any ideas? I was using mailing tape before and I am renting an apartment so I am hesitant to put large holes in the ceiling.

Here is a detail shot of the spinners. I made them from paper from a book. The book was water damaged and did not want to throw it away so I use it for paper crafts. Then I strung them together with colorful embroidery floss. I used a tutorial online to make these, but can't remember where I found it.

4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / How does marshmallow fondant taste? Should I go for prepackaged on: December 08, 2010 08:57:23 PM
A friend's birthday is coming up and I have always wanted to make a cake and decorate it with fondant. I have seen a few marshmallow recipes floating around and I was wondering how they taste? And is this type of fondant easy to work with?
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / My milesapart714's chain and braided bracelet! on: September 08, 2010 01:09:24 PM
Once I saw milesapart714's bracelet ( http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=356098.0) I wanted to make one immediately. So here it is (the first pic looks like a ray gun pew pew!):

I stuck with her color scheme, but unfortunately I did not cut my threads long enough so I ran out on the last links. I was going to undo it and start over, but I did not want to waste the thread and I have a pretty small wrists so I thought I could make it work. I ended up taking off one set of links and then the last bare set I added the tassel. And to finish I modge podged the ends down.

I had so much fun making this so right after I was done I started on one for my sister.

Thanks for looking! And thanks milesapart714 for the awesome tutorial!

6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Two Circle NeckLaces on: July 17, 2010 09:11:12 PM

7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Large Flower and Black Bow Hair Clips on: July 12, 2010 06:12:57 PM
Here are two hair clips inspired by ones I saw on the blog The Cherry Blossom Girl.

I made this first one from a large fake chrysanthemum I bought from Walmart and I super glued it to a barrette.

And this one I made from some wide black ribbon and super glued it to a barrette.

I really love the large flower, but I feel it is not something I could wear everyday  Cheesy

8  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Can anyone recommend their favorite resource for crocheted flowers? on: June 23, 2010 01:15:48 PM
I did a google search, but I am new to crocheting and felt I did not know exacting what to look for.
What I have in mind is a simple daisy pattern, but would love a variety of suggestions. I want to make the flowers pretty small so simpler is better, especially since I am such a novice  Cheesy

Thanks for the help!
9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Hair comb thingys on: June 22, 2010 01:42:51 AM

The above photo was taken at an angle so the size comparison is off . . . and it is blurry.

The first one I made from a silver pendant I bought from a Michael's and fastened it onto the hair comb with some silver jewelry wire. I am really pleased with how it turned out. The yellowish coloring is a reflection from the light.

The flowers I made by following a tutorial for fabric flowers on Simply Vintagegirl's blog.
Here is the first one I made. I accidentally burned the fabric (Simply Vintagegirl did warn me, but did I listen? No.), but I liked the distressed look that contrasted with the pink fabric so I continued to burn the edges. It has 6 layers.

The fabric is a red/pink with gold thread woven in to give it that shimmer.

The second I wanted to make more delicate so I used the 3 smallest layers from the template. I think I like this one the best of the two. I tried to not burn this one and mostly succeeded . . . mostly.

\

The tutorial called for silky fabrics and I do not think mine was not exactly the same type she used. I want to go buy something more silky and try again.

Thanks for looking  Cheesy
10  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Mermaid Tam and Lace Ribbon Scarf on: June 22, 2010 01:06:32 AM
I made both of these a while ago and thought I posted them, but apparently I forgot to.

I found this warm-gold colored yarn on sale and knew it had to be made into a scarf; it was such a soft bamboo yarn. Unfortunately I did not know at the time how heavy bamboo yarns can be. My scarf tends to stretch itself out  Embarrassed , but I still love it.

The pattern is Knitty's Lace Ribbon Scarf.

And here is how_german's mermaid tam. I love this hat and really want a bunch in different colors. I believe the yarn was Knit pick's wool of the andes.
