I post this here on behalf of my dear, loving (and slightly mad) boyfriend. Not because he asked me to, but because it is SO fantastic and touching and lovely and romantic and mooshy (puke!) that I had to share my glee.
For our first Christmas together, he spent many an evening in the months running up to it ferreted away in the garage, working on my Christmas present. I had no idea what he was working on.
It turned out to be this:
The first ever sort of carving project he'd ever done, and pretty damn good in my opinion! Those are our initials there (AC being mine and BC his - similar idea featured on a pillow I made recently (on the needlework board, people
)) and the 09 obviously being this year. I was really touched, but that wasn't the end of it. No no.
His dad comes from Northumberland, where, as a result, my boyfriend and his family spent most of their holidays as he was growing up. They still go there every year, and this April, I was brought along - my first trip to Northumberland. We did a lot of exploring, and lots of hill climbing. And where better to put a rock than with other rocks, on top of a hill? But not just any hill. As a demonstration of his love (erlack - I know, moosh) my boyfriend proposed we climb a big hill to put our love-rock on. So, we popped across the border into Scotland, and climbed the 821m White Coomb. And my boyfriend carried this smegging great rock (VERY heavy!) all the way up.
Well, I say all the way... You can see the top of White Coomb just off to the right there. Unfortunately, as we started to near the summit of the 821m hill, the clouds poured in and the wind was pretty lethal. We thought better of braving the last couple of hundred yards in the poor visibility, and had to leave the rock just short of the top.
When we return in August, we'll climb White Coomb again, and move the rock to its proper place. Apparently we're going to climb that hill everytime we go to Northumberland to revisit the rock and test our general fitness. Sounds good to me! Took us about 3 hours up and 2 hours down.
Either way, I love love love my love rock. Yay
Hope you like.
