1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / embroidered pillowcases *music* on: June 19, 2004 09:38:03 PM
i got this idea from an issue of readymade....gave me something to do while waiting at the walk in clinic (ugh). didn't take too long, and i think the pilowcases turned out pretty well. they are the slipcover type, so you just stuff the pillows in the back slit. yay-easy cleaning. my friend already begged me to make her a cassette one. for the size of the squares, i used a measureing tape to measure two ugly throw pillows i had. they were 18", so to allow for seam allowance i cut the squares 19". actually, for each pillowcase there was only one square, and two rectangles for the back. i used a 5 thread serger to do the edges, which simultaneously overlocks the edges and stitches along the edge of the overlocking. i used a normal lockstich machine to do the back seams.
here are some pictures!

2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / love hurts mirror on: April 16, 2004 04:21:52 PM
so, i found a mirror in a thrif store that had "love hurts" etched on the front, that some other DIY chick had made..or something. it had an ugle brown frame, but i thought i'd just paint the frame and hang it up. i put it in the back of my closet in a brown paper bag, and forgot about it. i went to pull it out months later and it was completely shattered. so i went through the broken bits (yes, i didn't wear gloves and yes, i cut myself..ouch) and picked out the pieces that still had "love hurts". then i decopauged a piece of cardboard with old text and images of lung x-rays from an old german medical book, and added some hearts. oh...i spraypainted the frame black, too. i think it's pretty cute!

3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / my take on the record clock.... on: March 30, 2004 11:51:48 AM
hey there...i've been lurking on this site for a long time, and decided to finally get my act together and post something. i made a clock out of an lp a long time ago....i think it looks pretty neat. it was for my boyfriend, so i made a vespa stencil (he really likes those). i couldn't bring myself to use a record i actually liked...it seemed too cruel. so i got a $.25 barry manilow album and spray painted it with a glossy avacado green paint, and then added big dots for the 12., 3, 6, and 9 hours, and then a border of little dots. it looks great, and it only took a few hours (including paint drying time).
