21  Re: Tea Towel Tour Gallery - As seen on TTTV in The Swap Gallery by Mamaphunk on: October 15, 2009 09:32:36 AM
Here is my embroidery on Gatsby Girl's towel:

This is hard for me to send. Seriously. It's not enough.

I don't know. This was such a hard one for me, I had a crazy work week (80 hours. Jeez) and I read the song lyrics over and over.

I think my brain was fried.  Grin

As a former smoker, I know how fabulous it is to take a moment of solace and to be alone with your thoughts while smoking. I wanted to convey the feeling of alone.

I might be a person who likes color too much and can't handle 4 colors being on a towel. LOL. I made myself feel better by doing metallic french knots for the ashes and lit part of the cigarette.

And this now concludes Mamaphunk's weirdo therapy post in the middle of the tea towel gallery.  Tongue

I just packaged up sixblueiris' towel to be sent off and here's what I stitched:

(please excuse the iphone quality pic and my freaking work notes! Yes, I'm at my desk. LOL)

Every great mermaid has a treasure chest, yes?  Grin

23  Have You Heard About the Buttercup Bag? (With a Twist!) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Mamaphunk on: September 29, 2009 06:55:52 AM
Of course you have!  Grin

One of my best friends just turned 30 and her husband threw her a surprise party. She has a beautiful little girl who is 3 and I thought that this would be a fun idea:

Mom & Daughter matching purses!

All I did was reduce the original pattern to 85% and used a shorter handle.

Here's a close up of the fabric that I used from IKEA

My friend tells me that they plan "matching purse day" and she even got her little girl some gum and keys so she can really be like her Mama!

Before:

And After:

My husband and I did everything except install the cabinets and countertops, we're good but not THAT good!  Grin

I wanted to go for an "Anthropologie" vibe and I think I did a decent job. I also love color (duh!) and really wanted to make a splash. I hope you all like!

25  Japanese Floral Fabric Quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by Mamaphunk on: September 28, 2009 11:22:50 AM

I made this using 5 charm packs that I purchased off of a Japanese craft supply website. It's my first time doing stipling and I'm thrilled with the results!

I did a write up of it at my blog if you want to see more pics and see the tutorials that I used. Thanks for looking!  Grin

Good morning everyone!

Here is Fenifer's towel, I embroidered a kitschy purple & pink squirrel holding a "magical" nut, it glows in the dark!  Grin (I love using glow in the dark thread so, so much!)

Another alternative to binding your towel is to back it with fabric! Here's a towel I did last year as an example:

All you do is wait until your towel is all stitched up and sew it to the backing (right sides facing each other, but leave a few inches open so you can turn it out!)

It's good if you're like me and want to get really OCD about showing the back side of your stitching.  Grin

When I get my towel back from this round, I'll probably add a backing and piping around the edges.

30  No More Hoarding! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Mamaphunk on: July 26, 2009 06:12:58 PM
Ok! So, I'm trying so, so hard to actually use my stash of pretty craft supplies instead of just sitting around and looking at them.

This afternoon I sat down and made these pendants, I really like how they turned out!

Group shot!

And the closeups:

What do you guys think?
