51  Re: Come one come all post your new tattoo IDEAS! in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by thekster on: September 15, 2007 07:04:53 PM
I hate MS Vista. I made a drew a picture of what I was talking about, and every time I try to add it to my photobucket, in the same place my IE goes out.
I'll try to post it on a diff comp later.
Edited to include picture Here's what I was talking about. Pretend I have good drawing skills haha. Also, imagine the part of the glue gun hangs off wraps around the rest of the hip, as I imagine it would IRL

52  Wedding in a gazebo...? in Weddings and Bridal Showers by thekster on: September 05, 2007 01:57:04 PM
Wow, I've been crafting up a storm lately! Unfortunately, none of them have been wedding related so since I don't stray from the wedding board much, I didn't post any on here. Anyhoodles.
My friend tooks some pictures of her friend the other day

and I thought the gazebo was really pretty... Pretty enough to have a wedding perhaps. (Upon closer inspection, I noticed a trailer in the background, so I don't think this will be where we'll have the wedding.) Just in case, what are the "rules" for having your wedding in a gazebo? Is it just the bride and groom, minister, and wedding party who stands in the gazebo? Is it everybody you can fit in comfortably? It seems most logical that just the bridal party would be in there but I dunno *shrugs*

My dad passed away from cancer in February, and I want to get a memorial tattoo for him. I have an idea for a tattoo, but my drawing (and ms paint) skills are practically nonexistant. I was hoping some of you lovely craftsters would be able to help.
It's a heart behind my dad's glasses from one of my favorite pictures of him. I like how the ear pieces close together a bit to make the top of a heart, and the dip in the actual heart seem to complete the heart of the ear pieces (hah, does anyone understand that?) I'm not too worried about the colors right now, but when I get it, I'd like the glasses to be tinted a rosy color, like in the pic.

Here is the glasses in the picture I like.

Any help you guys could provide would be very much appreciated!

54  Unity Candles + Sand? in Weddings and Bridal Showers by thekster on: August 12, 2007 05:57:13 PM
So I bought some vases that I thought might work to stick some candles in; I don't really like a lot of the storebought ones (especially the prices.)
What do you guys think of these?

I figured we could fill them with two to four colors of sand and then stick some candles in. If we go with that idea, the colors we'd definately use is the raspberry and teal, and possibly one of the other pinks and one of the other blues. Opinions needed!

55  Tux and Dress favor boxes in Weddings and Bridal Showers by thekster on: August 03, 2007 05:23:56 PM
Oh goodness! I raided Dollar Tree's wedding aisle today, and guess what I found...
If you take a hint from the subject... tux and wedding dress favor boxes! I saw these a million years ago in a wedding mag and yearned for them, but didn't want to pay what they wanted for them. I figured I could devise some way to make them myself for cheaper, and then basically forgot about them. Then today, I saw them at Dollar Tree and snatched up 60 of them for 6 bucks! How exciting is that?!
Moral of the story - buy lots of crap at Dollar Tree for a cheap wedding!
For those of you who don't know what I mean - here

56  Black and blue wallet, with pics and question in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions by thekster on: July 11, 2007 06:45:51 PM
I did the preliminaries on making a wallet yesterday (making 2 patterns [cuz I did the first one too small,] cutting the fabric, making the credit card holder thingie...) and today, I finished the c/c thing, screwed up on which piece of fabric I put it on, fixed that mistake, then sewed it together inside out and flipped it. It's only got a couple of steps left before it's finished.
This is what it looks like as it is now. There's one unfinished edge.

This is what it will look like, sorta, once I get it sewn. The parallelogram will be a pocket for change, with a zipper opening.

There will be some kind of closure (a button-snap or whatever it's called, most likely) on the opposite side of the parallelogram to close the wallet.
Closed, obviously. There will be a star made out of the blue fabric attached eventually.

The problem I have is, I didn't have any interfacing that was very stiff and when I went to Walmart, they didn't have any that was very stiff either, so I went without it. Which means it's very limp -

I'm not sure if I like it like this. I know it would be fine, but I'm used to harder wallets.
Do you guys and gals think I should put anything in it to make it stiffer? And if you think I should, do you have any suggestions on what to put in it? I've thought of interfacing (which I can't find,) plastic canvas (but I don't like how you can feel the squares beneath the fabric,) cardboard (which means I wouldn't be able to wash it ever,) or some kinda of flexible plastic but I don't know where I would get it or what it would be.
Suggestions are much appreciated!

57  Re: Toner Craftlace lanyard multi-braiding in Discussion and Questions by thekster on: July 02, 2007 07:43:24 PM
I finally finished my boondoggle keychain! I'm really pleased with it. It turned out a lot better than my first attempt. Sometimes, you just have to put a project away for a while, and when you pick it back up, everything becomes clearer.
(I curled the ends around a pencil, secured with clothes pins, and stuck in boiling water to make them stay curled.)
(a close-up without the flash so you could see the star beads.)
(This is the picture from the craftlace website enlarged to see a little detail. I bought the package with this on it cuz I thought it would have instructions to make it. It didn't.)

58  Re: Online Artificial Posie Resources? in Weddings and Bridal Showers by thekster on: June 14, 2007 01:43:36 PM

This is what my bouquet looks like. I think it needs to be fixed, but I'm not sure what to do with it. (I know the ribbon looks like crap.)
These are the flowers I got from Hobby Lobby. They also have some flowers there called "True Feel" or something like that that look/feel like real flowers. I got a bunch of them but they made the rest of my fake flowers look like crap.

59  Blue/pink wedding invitations, pictures and questions in Weddings and Bridal Showers by thekster on: June 08, 2007 09:02:11 PM
I'm going to make our wedding invitations. Our date is set for either Sept or Oct 29th, 2008 but we're leaning towards October (my parents got married on that date) and our wedding colors are going to be a dark greenish-blue, with a coordinating dark pink, and white for little things.
My mom and I bought 100 blank white invitations from walmart that have a pearl embossed border, and they're okay but they're just kinda boring, so I want to jazz them up. I want to put an altered picture of a lily as the background, and then I'll probably have to attach a sheet of vellum with our information because it would probably be too hard to read.
This is just something I drew up in Paint so you could see what I'm talking about. The pink lilies are other options of backgrounds, cuz I'm not sure which one I like best.

I'm sure I can either find a tut on how to make these foldy envelope thingies (I have no clue on the terminology) or figure it out on my own, but my question is what kind of paper do I use to make it and where can I get it? I dont' like the way cardstock looks (too homemade) and plus it would be too short. What do I do??

EDIT: Mistakes in the picture (words)= "different picture would require different color" and "with dark words." Also, the words on the invitation wouldn't be what was written there. I just don't know exactly how it's supposed to be written so I just made up something that sounded wedding-y. And the washed out pink lily is supposed to be what it might look like with vellum on top. Obviously I'm not so great at Paint hah
