I have actually seen this idea~
Use china plates to line the fence.  You could break them in half or just bury them 1/2 way.

Found some bamboo handles tonight while at Michaels~believe it or not they were back in the woodworking area??  Go figure!!
Now to select the perfect yarn for my bag!!
