11  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: help for the girl who was "never getting married" ? on: March 18, 2006 06:49:37 AM
lucid501 - your dress and bridesmaids dresses are really pretty and simple. I like that Smiley
I'm trying to find something not white or even beige/cream/antique white if I can help it... I have this problem of looking TERRIBLE in pastels. I had to wear lavender for a friends wedding and it's just... gah. terrible. but my fiance's grandparents are very old-fashioned (and very close to him, he lived with them for part of his growing up) and I don't want to upset them by having a black dress (it's my best color? haha)... but I can't really think of any alternatives... I love dark turquoise and sage green (not together but you know what I mean) but I can't think of getting a colored dress and end up not looking like the bride! it'll be our day and people will be asking "wait, which one is she?" and then I'll cry.

I dunno, it's just very overwhelming, all the little details. not to mention that we both have a lot of other things going on. I just want to start the planning (at least on paper) so when we have time to devote to actually planning it won't be all up in the air. but I'll take the advice of picking what's important to me and making sure I have that.

about who we're inviting, that's tricky. we started talking about it on the ride back from texas (it's a nice long 8hr drive) and he kept mentioning more and more people... including a few people I don't like (and wish he wasn't friends with) I kept thinking "I don't want them at MY wedding" but yeah, it's HIS wedding too, and I guess if he wants them there, I have to compromise, huh? but everytime we told someone of the engagement, they were like "when's the wedding? am I invited?" and we hadn't even talked about that stuff yet so it was like "uh, yeah, sure"... but, what if we can't afford to invite them? I really dig myself into a hole sometimes...

thanks for the advice keep it coming!

okay, so... I've never thought about a wedding (at least not until I started lurking on this forum a month or so ago) and I have no idea what I want. I keep running into the old traditions and getting confused on what I really HAVE to have. I mean, this is our wedding, we can do whatever we want, right?

here's a little background info...

right now we're both 21. we've been together (in one form or another) for about 2 and a half years... we're officially been together for almost a year (our anniversary is may 5)... he proposed to me while we were in texas visiting his family (we currently live in oklahoma) and we plan on getting married in texas... we're thinking september of 2007. so yeah, I have about a year and a half to plan but I'm a terrible procrastinator!! plus, I want to get into the spirit of this whole being engaged thing.

the few things I thought of.... I want cheesecake instead of wedding cake... and my reception dress is going to be a swing dress and we'll have this whole rockabilly theme going. (it's easier to plan the party then the actual wedding huh?)

we've announced the engagement to pretty much everyone but my parents (I want to tell them in person while he's with me... currently we live an hour apart and I see him once a week... but we're moving in together in june) but I was wondering... do we have an engagement party? should we send out announcements? or should we wait til the wedding is a lot closer??

any advice on anything would be great as I'm pretty much clueless even after reading so many threads on the subject. as far as the invitations and such I have some ideas... and the more we talk about it, I'm sure we'll land on a theme... I really just need a timeline of when I'm meant to do things, if that makes sense. and whether I should have two reception parties? (such as a luncheon for the older folk and then a party for the rest of us?) I dunno. HELP?
13  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Re: What did you get or give for Valentines day? on: February 26, 2006 08:12:11 AM
what I made / got for my boyfriend:

- red duct tape rose
- hotrod magazine and beer (inside joke!)
- I hand-painted a aquateen hungerforce shirt
- heart-shaped cheesecake
- I made him a magazine-sized card with a collage-poem and lot's of inside jokes
- and last but not least the "punk rock love mix cd"
(which had more than just "punk" music on it, oh well)

tracklist:
01. queen - crazy little thing called love
02. billy idol - dancing with myself
03. beatles - I wanna hold your hand
04. weezer - buddy holly
05. phantom planet - is this really happening
06. tiger army - twenty flight rock
07. the aquabats - red sweater
08. sublime & no doubt - saw red
09. buzzcocks - ever fallen in love
10. ernies - keep on missing you
11. fastbacks - love you more
12. the aquabats - fashion zombies
13. tiger army - cupid's victim
14. chumbawamba - amnesia
15. fatbot slim - praise you
16. prodigy - one love
17. the arcade fire - neighborhood #3 (power out)
18. magnetic fields - fall in love with the wolfboy
19. styx - mr roboto
20. ac/dc - you shook me all night long
21. nirvana - love buzz

what my boyfriend did for me/got for me:
- a two-page letter telling me how much he cares for me
- honeysuckle soap (it's a memory/metaphor I use in poetry related to him and also he remembered that I had found the soap somewhere downtown but didn't buy it because I didn't have the money on me, plus he has a terrible memory so it means a lot that he remembered)
- a hotpink rose
- a mix cd (with a lot of cheesy love song COVERS. hah.)
- dinner at the olive garden in OKC (about two hours away) then coffee at a cute artsy coffeehouse
- a small red glass heart (this was a surprise coming back from the city when we stopped to get gas)
- he also brought grapes along for our trip... aww. memory of our 4th of july "picnic"
- and he paid for this cute goth-lolita corset&skirt outfit that I found on ebay

that about sums it up.

this is so awesome.
when my boyfriend and I  move in together we're going to thrift for furniture AND objects/material to make furniture with and I'm definately going to tell him about this idea Smiley

it really is so much fun getting crafty with him. He gets especially enthusiastic when the project requires power tools! but he still thinks he's too cool for craftster. Wink

make sure to post all the stuff you make!

haha, yeah. my boyfriend doesn't even think he's crafty at all yet he suggested we build/make furniture. silly boy. we won't be moving in together for another 3-6 months (depends on money/jpb situation) but I'll definately post when we make something Smiley

my boyfriend wrote me a two-page letter and gave me a mix cd and some honeysuckle soap (the scent of honeysuckle reminds me of him because of this memory of us walking though a field in spring - aww) and took me out to dinner in the city (it's a two-hour drive away) and... yeah. he felt that he hadn't given me enough because I made everything (except two things) that I gave him... and I guess I tend to over-do-it on gifts. this happened at christmas too, I got him more than he got me and he felt bad. I can't help doing what I do, though... I just get all these ideas!

but for our one-year anniversary, I think I'm going to try and space myself out and not over-do-it. it'll be hard because I'll have two more months to come up with ideas.

For those who have gotten far enough in their relationships: Buying some warming massage oil and giving your lovey a full body massage recieves great appreciation... Wink Did that for my lovey last year, with various candles lit (he loves candles) and it left him in a very happy daze.

Because of poor economy, me and my lovey just looked up a semi-fancy recipie that looks real good, and we're gonna make that for dinner, at home... and now we need a movie. Any good suggestions? No thriller or horror, and nothing TOO depressive (i.e. the movie Dolls from 2002 whoever the director was, may be a lot about love, but it DOES leave you suicidal)
Preferably something romantic, or semi-romantic. Nothing like "love actually" or similar.. blah. Romance movies needs comedy, or preferably something to move your mind.
We've already seen Amelie, Sliding Doors and Eternal Sunshine. We're both absolutely struck by Eternal Sunshine, it's one of the most brilliant movies ever.
Seen Vanilla Sky as well, even though that doesn't really classify as romance Wink And we've seen Casablanca ofcourse. And many others, but those are what comes to mind.
So now I'm sort of out of ideas. I've got Annie Hall as a backup, 'cause it's a cool and funny movie (I've only seen bits of it, and Amir hasn't seen it at all!)

Suggestions?

have you seen Lost In Translation? not exactly romantic but it's a good movie.
the mexican is a good movie, in my opinion, it has romantic elements, sometimes it funny, and there's quite a bit of action so your boy (er, man) won't get bored...
chelsea walls is a beautiful movie, it's artsy-fartsy and occasionally romantic.
garden state...
LOVE ME IF YOU DARE. if you haven't seen that, then I bet it'll be the perfect movie for you and your sweetheart. it's french Smiley and very quirky/cute/romantic!
oh, and say anything... talk about sap. I love john cusack.
and while we're at it, high fidelity Smiley

that's just a few off the top of my head. hope it helps!

20  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / Re: Whats your size/challenge? on: January 31, 2006 06:11:12 PM
Hey Vampy, when I was younger and my mom would take me shopping the lady would always fit me for a bra.  However, for the last many years when I would ask for help I could not get any.  Not even in Dillards and Foleys and stuff.  So I am thrilled to know that somewhere, someone is still trained in fitting bras.  I just don't know how to find one here in Okiestate.  Well but I agree with you, a well fitting bra will save a lot of problems, ie., backaches.  Thanks for reminding me how important that is.  Hope I can find someone.

I'm in oklahoma too! I feel your pain, especially being in a small-ish town. the only places to shop are the mall, wal-mart and k-mart :/
