41  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Welcome to the UK! (gift pack) on: June 22, 2005 03:06:06 AM
Hi all. I'm an American living in Wales. (I've been here two years.) Well, I just found out one of my friends from the States is going to be studying in England for a semester come Sept. I'm so excited!  What I want to do is make her a "Welcome to the UK!" gift pack. Now, she's going to be coming straight from America so she's not gonna be missing her fav foods and stuff right away. And I wouldn't be able to get them myself being in Wales! So what can I include??? I've gotten a couple of ideas from some of the other posts including things like:

a map
travel blog
slang dictionary
and vouchers

I also thought it would be an idea to make a sort of "guide to shopping in the uk" including which stores are which and where to find stuff. Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve these ideas and what else I can do? She'll be here for about four months and will be visiting Wales while she's here as well. What do you think? Help!

Okay so here are my first two stencils ever. I made them both for my husband for our anniversary last weekend. (He was amused.)

Sorry for the poor pictures. Sad Opinions?

43  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / My Bloody Valentine on: January 31, 2005 04:34:12 AM
Okay, so Valentine's Day is in two weeks. I've been trying to think of something to do for my husband. We've been together for three years and married for six months. My husband is an artist who used to be a gothic and LOVES dvds (esp horror movies)....Now, I thought, vampire, blood, heart, love, Valentine's Day. Got the connection? Only...How to use this theme to make a great V-day gift? I've ordered the movie Valentine for him, which is a small start. I thought that maybe I could either put all of his gifts into a popcorn bucket or use a popcorn bucket somehow but I'm lost when it comes to including the "bloody V-Day" theme...Can anyone help? I know this is really rambling but does it make any sense?

Here are some ideas my friends came up with:

you could make/get some massage oils and rename them with a horror flick themes.
same for chocalate.
bake something, and decorate it with hearts with bat wings.
put together a horror flick costume for you to wear....or not.
a red beverage; label it blood?
you could bake him a red velvet cake, with dark chocolate frosting.
44  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Valentine's Day Already? on: January 18, 2005 01:39:03 AM
How long until Valentine's Day? 27 days? Okay, don't panic...Plenty of time. Don't panic. But...What to do for my husband? This is only our third Valentine's Day together and our first as a married couple. He's 35, loves dvds, gothic music (especially The Damned)and collects autographs. But, can I incorporate any of this into a romantic and touching present that says "I love you, you crazy Welshman!" Huh?
45  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Going Away Pressie? on: December 17, 2004 04:36:40 PM
My friend since Jr High is making a big move from Michigan to California and I want to make her a sort of survival package (She's gonna be all alone without any friends or family around) ...Only what do I put in it? Bear in mind that I already moved from our home town to the UK so it can't be super heavy. (Shipping is costly!) Any ideas?

48  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Beanie Change Purses? on: April 17, 2004 05:57:52 PM
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question...But...

My fiance and I were walking around at a collectors' convention today where a lot of toys and such were on display. After about the third time we passed this row of beanie babies and small stuffed animals, I thought, "I wonder if I could hallow the body of one of these out and make it into a change purse?" Well, what do you think? Possible? Any tips? I'd love to try but I'm hesitant about demolishing any cute little stuffed animals until I'm sure I can do it...
49  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Quick projects on: April 02, 2004 09:20:29 AM
Hey, here are a couple of my early crochet projects. The first one is a patriotic red, white and blue head kerchief thing. It's just double crochet...the triangle shape is from adding an extra d.c. into the last d.c. of each row. I added two braids on either end of the top for straps.

The second one is my first attempt at a purse. I'm not keen on the peaches and cream look but I had the extra wool laying around. I didn't use a pattern or anything, I just sort of winged it. There's the two sides and the strap joined together on the outside with d.c. I had a little trouble attaching the ends of the straps. If anyone has tips on that, I'd love the help!

I've been using Patons First Steps in Crochet when I get stuck. I don't know if that helps.
