3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Embellish This! Swap, Januaryish? on: November 06, 2006 03:58:04 PM
Do you love the trims, lace, buttons, ribbon, sequins, feathers, studs, rhinestones, pompoms, googly eyes, bells and felt-mambobs at the craft store? Why not have a swap where you embellish an item(like a tote, frame, t-shirt, pillow, etc.)using the wildest limits of your crafty imagination?

It'd be a chance to break out the hot glue gun, the bedazzler, the spin-art maker, the embroidering supplies, and embellish the heck out of an item of your partner's choice in your partner's style:) The more fantastic, gaudy, and frivolous the better!

So whaddya say?...

Details of swap:
Do you have a favorite folk tale or fairytale that you've held near and dear to your heart since childhood? Were you enchanted by the Disney movies Cinderella or Beauty & the Beast, or did you perhaps prefer the darker, original versions of the story? Either way, this swap is for you! The mysticism and imagination of fairytales provides inspiration abound for journals, totes, plushies, artwork, trinkets, and other mementos.

Just a few things before we begin...Keep up the communication- let's try to keep this swap flaker-free:) If you need to send late, for any number of legitmate reasons, just PM me and let me and your partner know. When you find out who your partner is- break the ice, make friends, ask questions- that's part of the fun! If you want your partner to make you a shirt or skirt, etc, be sure to PM them with your size(s) and measurements. If you're unsure about whether or not they would like something you have an idea for, just give them a little hint and ask if they like it or not.

Swap packages are to include one large item and two medium items, or whatever package size you and your partner agree to send each other ahead of time - just be clear with each other on this one and you won't have too much of that 'did I send too much/too little?' anxiety. Above all, have fun getting to know your swap partner and putting some thought into your crafts for each other Smiley

Practice good swap etiquette - PM your partner and the organizer with your delivery confirmation code, PM both again to let them know you've recieved, and finally, thank your partner in a PM/letter for the package they sent. Don't forget to take pictures of your items(if possible) before sending, and post pictures on the swap gallery.

5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Fairy Tale Swap(October-ish) on: August 26, 2006 07:34:59 PM
Wouldn't it be cool to make swap packages with themes like 'Alice In Wonderland', 'Rapunzel', 'The Little Mermaid', 'Sleeping Beauty', etc.?(if that dredges up too many memories of Disney for you, you could draw inspiration from the darker, original versions?)? There's all sorts of inspiration for jewelry, trinket boxes, stuffies, shirts, bags, etc., etc...would anyone be interested?

I'll organize the swap after I get feedback for the Harry Potter/Hogsmeade swap:)

6  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / Curvy Girls and Fabric Prints? on: August 24, 2006 12:40:05 PM
I'm going to make a dress from the simplicity 4050 pattern(duro-style dress), and I was wondering if you had any advice for what fabric prints to use- which prints flatter and which make a girl look like a carnival tent?
7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Knitting Goodies Swap? on: August 17, 2006 03:57:32 PM
How about starting a swap to make small knitting notions like stitch markers, a decorated altoid tin to store them in, point protectors, and a zipped pouch to hold knitting essentials? It'd just be small stuff that's quick and fun to make and cheap to ship.
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Enchanted Forest Stitch Markers on: August 17, 2006 03:50:54 PM
Knitting Goodies Swap?http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=115102.0
This is my first attempt at stitch markers, I just used some headpins and beads I had lying around, just waiting to be made into something!

Someone mentioned they wrapped pins around a pen instead of using jumprings or splitrings - it worked okay but I wouldn't use the same method for stitch markers I intended to give or sell, cos its hard to get the two little ends to stick together and not drop the dangly bit. Stitch markers are so fun to make:)
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Knitting/Book Tote on: August 08, 2006 01:36:25 PM
This was the first time I've used grommets, it was fun but a little scary to use a big ol' hammer on that little mallet and take some frustration out on it, lol. Yay for stash busting:

10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Russian Dolls/Nesting Dolls Swap? on: August 05, 2006 08:50:13 AM
Remember those Russian dolls that open in half to reveal progressively smaller dolls? There's even a teensy set of them in challenge 14: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=111576.0

Wouldn't it be so cool to do a swap where you make your partner a set of nesting dolls, but instead of the tiniest doll at the end you put in something special like a pair of earrings, pendant, etc., something small? I'm still too new at swapping to organize this, but I just thought I'd throw the idea out there!
