lol yeah it was deffinatly time consuming although not as bad as i thought it owuld be probably 2 or 3 hours each. *hint use an exacto knife to cut the pieces out istead of scissors it was so much faster and more accurate just watch your fingers!
12  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / awesome new paper lamps for college design classroom on: August 20, 2008 09:08:15 PM
i am a second year graphic design student. in my program we are assigned a computer in one classroom and that becomes our home we NEVER leave. anyway it has become a tradition for alot of students to try to get the coolest lamp possible for the desk space, i however am quite messy, my creativity always vomits all over my desk, and the floor around it and basicly any other free desk nearby (im sure my fellow craftsters all understand) so i didn't want to take up the precious desk space with a lamp so i figured a hanging lamp would be perfect and then i found this post http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=231484.0 and just had to have one. i decided i wanted it more colourful and fun than the white ones i've seen so i decided scrapbook paper would be awesome, very colourful and great patterns and great for a design room. i also made one for my 13 year old sister to match the bright colours in her room she loves it and i'm really excited to get back to school to show mine off.

anyway enough words on with the pictures

Lit Up

*EDIT* i didn't take any scale photos but they are about 14 inches across and the lightbulb inside is the energy efficient kind that wont produce much heat so fire hazards are significantly reduced.

anyway i'm super excited with how these turned out and am already planning on making many more i LOVE them and they give off a surprising amount of light (alot more than the pictures let on) so what do you think? comments?

its just scrapbook paper. i love the white ones, they are very classy looking but i wanted something a little more vibrant and unique looking and i am really pleased with the way the scrapbook paper worked! i definitely recommend it!

ahh thank you! super helpful! i realized afterward that i should have taken a scale picture. but it is defiantly large enough with a diametere of close to 15 inches or so and i plan to use the energy efficient bulbs that don't produce as much heat. thanks again!

i did an Alice in Wonderland self portrait photoshoot and made all the props myself. i don't have any photos of the props on their own (i'l try to get some shots and post them later) but here are a couple of the photos i took. i made everything (including the house) and my mom made the white apron/pinny.

this one shows the apron/pinny better

or  is it just a hobby?

gah thanks again to everone. your kind words are really too much!
i am in my first year of a graphic design program and plan on pursuing a carreer somewhere in the feild. photography is deffinatly my strong point and would love to do something at least partly related to photography. i was seriously considering photography as a career but realized taht in the real world a large percentage of proffessional photographers cant find work and end up working for jostens or something taking school pictures and i never want to be in that position. i enjoy design alot and it incoroporates may of my skills, including photography so i'm happy where i am for now! sorry guys i don't know what happend. i re-uploaded all the pictures to the craftster image host and posted thumbnails. they all seem to be working now and the thumbnails should speed up the loading process (the original files are pretty large) you guys all know the drill, click the thumbnails to see full size versions! sorry about that!
