21  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: The Pick-n-Choose Theme Swap (Sign ups: CLOSED! Sendouts: 06/18) on: June 08, 2008 02:39:15 PM
Ooooh!
They are so lovely!  Cheesy

Sad to say my dogs have had very little input in this project  Sad, although one of them goes absolutely mental when there's bubble wrap nearby; I had to shove him out the room for a bit when I was using it for a couple of items or he would have grabbed it out of my hands and thouroughly destroyed it  Undecided  (I've also dug up a stash of colourful tissue paper I didn't know I had, so that's nice  Tongue)

Monday or Tuesday?! Eeeeek! So soon! Cheesy
The last item needs to be done in stages so I'm thinking maybe later this week, Thursday or Friday when it can all be sent off, everything else is wrapped.

Hmm, actually I think I'll double line the box in which everything is going with extra bubble wrap, there are some breakables in there...*starts to obsess about the breakables*  Grin

I have a bad case of swap anxiety. I'm always nervous that I'm not sending enough or it isn't crafted as good as someone else might have made it.  I hope I'm not the only one with swapping butterflies!

You certainly aren't the only one with swap anxiety!

Only one more item left for me to make and I'm ready to ship out! *excited*  Grin

and also... tips on what kind of a fixative to use for soft pastels.

anyone?

Hairspray!  Grin

Obviously it won't make your drawing permanent but it's the best thing you can get to make your drawings less smudge-able and more stay in place.....-able.

When you're spraying your work though, be sure to have at least say, ten inches or so distance between the nozzle of the can and your work so that the pastel is just 'lightly misted' with spray rather than doused in the stuff. Because if your work gets wet with the hairspray then it won't dry looking the same as it did orignially, scribble a bit of pastel onto some scrap paper to test what I mean; if your works gets too 'wet' with hairspray the colour will often end up stuck a shade or so darker.

I'm guessing this varies with the type of hairspray used, too, I wouldn't normally give so many cautions, (in real life I'd probably just tell someone "yeah, just bung some hairspray on it" or something :p) but I don't want you to accidentally mess up that adorable octopus and it be my fault  Cheesy

Seriously, it's so cute! Good job Wink

EDIT
Oh yes and make sure you have a window open or something when you're spraying, don't want to end up suffocating yourself. Not that a small picture like this will require much spraying

Hah I just got back from the village, (popped in on the way back from handing something in at school) and picked up an item I needed, this means I can totally finish off all but one item today, (if I didn't have to go over 'Measure for Measure' for the english exam tomorrow instead, believe me I'd much rather be crafting   Cheesy). So that's good, then it's on to item five!

And then of course I got distracted and ended up buying some books from a nearby 'Help the Aged' charity shop. Which is silly 'cause I'd promised myself not to get anymore until I'd read through the stack of 'modern classics' I impulse bought from 'the Book People' catalogue a while back (15 for 16, what was I supposed to do, not buy them?, pffft!  Roll Eyes oh how I love those catalogues) but I digress.

Yes, crafting, the sun is shining outside and I'm cooped up inside with Shakespeare and Coleridge making notes about corrupt authority and the theme of penance. *grumble grumble*
I mean, this long-winded post is clearly just a way of avoiding getting some work done too  Tongue

anyways....*drags self away from computer* buh-bye  Smiley

I have to tie up a loose end on my 5th item, then I'll be ready to ship  Grin

*squeee!*  Grin Oooh it's all getting a bit exciting!  Cheesy

I still have my fifth item to make and a few tiny loose ends to tie up on another item, I really hope you like everything, I feel kind of guilty that my exams have been getting in the way of my precious crafting time  Tongue

I must admit I'm kinda pleased because there's this project I'd wanted to try for ages and for some reason it just hadn't occurred to me that I actually did have everything I needed supply-wise and that it'd totally fit one of the themes/items.  Grin

Most enjoyable item to make so far aswell and I like how it's looking at the moment, I need to show it to someone else to get their opinion though, don't trust my own judgement :p
