11  CANADA / British Columbia / Kelowna Farmers and Crafters Market on: February 22, 2006 12:11:29 PM
Has anyone here ever worked the Kelowna's Farmers and Crafters Market that runs here from the spring till the fall?

I am interested in setting up a booth but I haven't been able to get any information from the organization itself. Can anyone give me the lowdown?

Thanks!

How does it stand on its own?

It doesn't have any weight in it's feet (although future ones probably will) but because the felt is all on end it's a bit rigid so he stands on his own - a good stiff wind could probably blow him over though.

Felt by the yard at the fabric store can be really nicer than the sheets or it can be icky-thin & not a nice feel. But when buy  a half yard(or whatever)of felt you get the entire width usually 60-72inches. So you get a lot more inches of fabric. I'm a tactile person so which ever one feels better is the one I'd buy-with all the beautiful work you put into your book it would be a shame to buy a poor quailty fabric. Keep up the great work!!! The last "mama" page is just precious!!

Thanks!

Yeah, I was wondering about the quality. I guess my issue is that I really don't like a lot of the stock colours they have at the craft store. They are too loud and neon and primary. I tend to like off colours and I hoped that my LFS would have some more selection. I guess i'll just have to get out and actually look! lol

I'm guessing H for honeybee

Yes.. that's it. I put the names of the pages under each photo...

I was a bit creative with the names because I didn't want to do a lion or tiger so lamb and toad it was. (He has little knotty warts and everything heheh.)

Wow! I totally love the skull. It looks so realistic and just... cool! This isn't your granny's embroidery that's for sure. Grin

Did you freehand the animals or did you have a pattern??

I just free handed everything. I drew out a rough copy of the page design on a piece of paper and then just cut out the animals from there.

The only thing I think you should modify before you market these is the binding method, so that the book lies flat

What do you mean by this? When the book is lying on the table, pages open it's totally flat. It reads like any other book. Have I misunderstood you?  Huh

This is a felt name book I made for my daughter Charlotte for her 1st birthday. Each letter of her name is represented by an animal of the same letter. The book is embellished with different textures, ribbons and a zipper for her to feel. It took me about 2 months to do - 1-3 hours a night. Any feedback would be most appreciated.

It is made out of plain craft felt and embroidery thread.

ps. Is felt bought at a fabric store a much better quality than the sheets at a craft store? Apart from the better (and more varied) colours, is it worth the splurge?

I will add the disclaimer that toys for children under 3 shouldn't have buttons or anything they could choke on. Even though she never has pulled at the buttons, we always look at this book together.
