The Army has changed their uniforms, so soldiers are getting rid of their old uniforms (called BDUs). My hubby is deployed and I am wanting to make him a travel bag for more storage while he is there [not pictured here yet]. I'm not about to destroy anything of his until he is safely home (just a quirk some military wives have while hubby is deployed) so a nice woman sent me her husband's BDUs and asked me to make her a purse like the corduroy booty bag I posted previously.
I have a post about it on my blog. Suffice it to say, these BDUs are a tough nut to crack. But I forged on to create this for her - and it will be a nice reminder of her hubby's tush when he deploys later this year. I see a lot of people wearing army-inspired clothing and such, but I think its a nice touch for those truly going through it to get to sport their husband's gear.
Hope you like!
I pleated the purse so it was a little more "girly" and also out of necessity. I had to cut above the pockets on the thighs, which made the purse dimensions wonky (very wide vs very short)
Here is the obligatory "Pic of Me Carrying Purse" picture that I swore I would never do:
I used an army desert pillowcase for the lining:
