Attention Crafty Ladies & Guys, Do It Yourselfers, Art/Craft Lovers & Collectors!  Art Star is pleased to present Embroidered Works by one of the Queens of the Contemporary D.I.Y. movement: Jenny Hart!  The exhibition will take place August 19th October 1st, 2006.  An opening reception will take place on Saturday, August 19th, from 5-9PM.  The reception is free & open to the public.  The artist will be doing a Book Signing on Saturday, August 19th, from 2-3:30 PM, which is a free event.  An Embroidery Workshop is also scheduled with Hart on Sunday, August 20th, from 1-3PM.  The cost is $75 & limited to only 8 people.

Jenny Hart is the founder of the Texas-based Sublime Stitching, the little company that rocks the needle-working industry. Jenny is an internationally published artist/illustrator, an award-winning author of two titles for Chronicle Books and a designer for Plaid / Bucilla.

Jenny will be exhibiting her beautiful and incredibly detailed hand embroidery on cotton, satin, and leather.  Kitschy, retro, and totally cool, Harts work has breathed new life into the art of embroidery.  Rejecting the usual geese in bonnets, the artist stitches celebs, strippers, rockers, & cowgirls with a Pop Art flair.  The artist is known for her colorfully patterned portraits of iconic personalities, including Marianne Faithful, The White Stripes, & Dolly Parton.

Jenny will also be here promoting her new book, Sublime Stitching: Hundreds of Hip Embroidery Patterns & How-To.  A book signing is scheduled for Saturday, August 19th, from 2-3:30 PM.  Be the absolute first to snag a copy, as the book will not officially be out until October!  This event is free & open to the public.

And if that isnt enough, Hart will also be conducting an embroidery workshop on Sunday, August 20th, from 1-3 PM!  Learn a bunch of basic stitches, transfer techniques, & inspiration for starting your own project from the master herself.  There are only 8 spaces available & seats will be filling up fast.  The cost is $75 per person.  Sign up today!

Jenny lives and works in Austin, Texas where she is a founding member of the Austin Craft Mafia. When in New York, she teaches sold-out classes at Make Workshop in SoHo. She runs Sublime Stitching full blast and tries to embroider every day.  Her work is included in the collections of the Roger Miller Museum, actress Carrie Fischer, comedian Tracey Ullman, and Elizabeth Taylor.  Jennys embroidery and wardrobe design has appeared in a Flaming Lips video, and you may have seen her on TV as judge for Craft Corner Deathmatch on E! and Style Network.

Art Star is a gallery & boutique located in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. We exhibit and sell handmade work of all media by emerging artists, designers, and crafters. We strive to carry work that is innovative & superbly crafted, while also creating & supporting a network of artists. Our exhibitions rotate every 6 weeks and our boutique offers shoppers everything from handmade clothes, jewelry & accessories to dolls, ceramics & prints.
