1  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Crochet moron needs help... on: September 22, 2004 10:58:11 AM
My problem is that I haven't crocheted since I was about 7 (20 years ago), and never had to get started on my own.  I'm now staring at the stupid directions for getting the first slip knot going, and for some bizarre reason, can't get it right.

Could this be because I'm a left handed person trying to use the right handed directions?

Is there anywhere online to find a streamed video that shows the initial steps?

Thanks for any help (and yes, feel free to laugh at my ineptness!)
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / SUPER HOT SOCK SWAP Gallery on: September 16, 2004 06:34:28 PM
Since this hasn't been started yet, and my wonderful swapper has just sent me a most magnificent package, I thought I'd start the Super Hot Sock Swap Gallery....

Many, many thanks to Heather (not sure of your craftster id) - now my always-cold feet will be super toasty!

Items:  cherry red and clear nail polish, pumice stone, pink asian embroidered slippers, yummy foot scrub, and the softest socks I've ever touched!

A pic...
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Handcrafted Card Swap gallery on: September 14, 2004 12:07:04 PM
This is the spot to post the beautiful handmade cards that you're swapping....

There will still be a surprise because once I get all of the cards, I'll put together individual packages for each of you with a mix of the cards from everyone.

If you don't have a camera to post, let me know and I'll post your cards when they arrive to me.
4  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Handcrafted Card Swap(SIGNUP CLOSED; MAIL BY 9/15) on: August 30, 2004 10:47:30 AM
Swap name: Handcrafted Card SwapCraftster member who is organizing this swap:  seapj
Sign-up date range:  8/30 to 9/6
Date to send item by: 9/15

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): 10

Non-U.S. participants allowed? NO (too expensive for me to mail out, unless you're willing to cover postage)

All ages allowed? 18+ (or PM me if you're interested but under 18)

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders"
list and will not allow those members to participate: YES (awaiting list from Leah)

No one can have too many beautiful handcrafted cards on hand, so let's do a card exchange.  How it works:  Everyone will make 6 cards and 6 matching envelopes in whatever craftiness inspires them (stamping, handmade paper, shaving cream cards, felt, etc.).  You can make 6 different designs or all the same - it doesn't matter.  You mail your completed cards out to me (with Delivery Confirmation info PM'd to me).  I will then make a bundle of 6 different cards for each of the 10 participants, and mail them out to you.

You may request a specific holiday or event card be sent (or not sent) to you, and I will do my best to match up your requests.

I will cover the return postage, so please don't make any huge cards that will cost extra for me to mail.  (If you're feeling kind, I would appreciate either a contribution of $1 for postage since it will be at least $1.55 per each package I have to mail out with Delivery Confirmation (cash or stamps) plus mailing supplies, or even an extra card that I can keep.)

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

Name of swap:
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address:
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of the US? N/A, US swap only
Do you have any specific requests or "don't wants" for the cards (e.g. wedding card, no Christmas, etc.):

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Handmade card swap? on: August 27, 2004 03:48:52 PM
Would anyone be interested in a swap of hand made cards?  They can be totally blank, a mix of occasions (e.g. birthday, thank you, wedding, baby congrats, even holidays that are coming up), and whatever people like to do...stencil, stamp, collage, paint, etc.

If I organize, does anyone have thoughts on what number to suggest each person swap, should envelopes be included, anything else?
6  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Craft The Vote! / Crafting for the MoveOn Virtual Yard Sale on: August 23, 2004 07:06:16 PM
If you're someone who supports a change in the White House, you can sell your crafts (or other items) through MoveOn PAC's Virtual Yard Sale.  You list through them to sell the item on Ebay, and then the proceeds are donated to MoveOn's campaign.

If you're interested, read more at www.moveonpac.org.

7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / cheap purse handles on: June 11, 2004 05:44:40 PM
I just saw 2 big lots of purse handles on Ebay...

For anyone planning on making a bunch of purses this Summer, this would probably be a total score.  Too bad I'm studying for the bar exam and can't sew this Summer!
