21  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Completed Projects / Re: Wrap pants... on: June 20, 2007 07:08:03 PM
Pants are cute. Smiley Grammas can be annoying like that sometimes... When I was a teenager, my great gram constantly fussed at me for dressing too much like a boy. To appease her, on one visit, I wore a dress and did my hair. She took one look at me, and all in the same breath, said: Cute dress. You look fat. Have a cookie...

>.<

Anyway. CUTE PANTS Smiley
22  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Not Quite New Boyfriend's Birthday- Hippie Home Brewer with eclectic taste on: May 15, 2007 09:46:07 AM
Okay, so here's the scoop. Got a new boy. He's not *quite* my boyfriend yet, but it's definitely headed down that road. We're just taking things slow so as not to mess up.

His birthday is July 21- I'm giving myself plenty of time to figure out something awesome. He's definitely into home-made-with-love kinda stuff, so I want that to be the bulk of it.

Okay, my boy -
- Will be 31.
- Shaves his head
- 10 tattoos
- Home brews beer
- reads a ton
- is a geek
- likes metal and indie rock
- has a pug named Sweetpea (how adorable is that!?)
- Our first "date" was to hang out and shoot pool
- Our second was a picnic in the park

Ideas fo far -
- I promised to knit him a hat. I really want to knit him one of the R2D2 beanies from the pattern on here but I'm scared of color working. Maybe I'll just knit him a simple beanie in some really nice yarn.
- Picture frame w/ beer caps - I know a bartender who can probably get me tons.
- something for Sweetpea. Maybe a new collar or lead and tags. Or a doggie sweater to match Daddy's hat.
- the new Harry Potter comes out ON his birthday. If I can manage to get it, i'll get that - plus a bookmark and decorative bookplate.

Any other suggestions?

I want to knock his socks off! (Maybe I should knit socks too... Hmm)
23  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Magic Yarn Ball Round 3 on: February 05, 2007 08:04:58 PM
I received from SoonFamo-Artiste! Look at this MONSTER of a yarn ball.

And here's the guts!

Left to right:
Purple Head Band
Silver Quarter shaped buttons
a corset shaped cell phone charm
a hot pink teacher tote bag
a navy blue check book cover, painted with an apple
2 spools of ribbon
clay!
pompom kit to make kitties
4 balls of yarn! theyre actually cadet blue, 2 light purple, and one darker purple
and blue buttons

I really, really apologize for the crappy pics. I'm in the middle of a very unexpected move. (My boyfriend of two years announced last week that he never wants to get married and wants me to move out...) so... yeah, I'm sorry- SoonFamo-Artiste, thank you so much!!!! My pics don't do your effort justice at all!

I'd be game. My Valentine is the least romantic man on earth, lol. This would make the day more cheerful.

26  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: New Knitty's Calorimetry on: December 11, 2006 06:06:07 PM
Mine too! Used 8s. Cast on 80. Not sure how many rows I ended up with, probably 30? Made from a thick handspun superwash merino by TheBon that I got from the handspun/handcraft swap.

Way too warm for Houston though. Being gifted to my friend Jen who is off to Maine to visit her familia, which will be perfect weather for it!

27  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Socialist Realism - when Histroy Homework goes all ARTY(!) on: November 16, 2006 03:41:51 AM
As a history teacher, first off, I LOVE your history teacher. Tongue I'm so stealing this and making my kids do it when we get to that era!!!

Secondly, You can count on alot of people doing poster/collages/drawings/etc. But not alot of people are going to do cake. That's way cool. I like the idea of putting something in the cake - little jokes like knit_north suggested... or if you could find like a bitty toy hammer or bitty plastic nail to bake in - whoever got that piece would then be the very honored comrade of the day and have to make a speech on the spot extolling the virtues of Stalin... which would end up being funny... comedy and cake are a good combination.

red velvet cake all the way - - - just be really careful when you're making it as they tend to deflate in the oven if you bang the oven door or jostle the oven. put the cake in and leave the darn thing til its done - no peeking.

28  UNITED STATES / Tennessee / Any ideas on fun, crazy, and cheap things to do in Nashville? on: November 13, 2006 10:09:16 AM
So, a group of my fellow teachers and administrators are headed to Nashville Dec 1 - 6 for the National Staff Development Conference at the Opryland.

Crafty things would be cool - but also needed are some suggestions for fun, funky, and CHEAP (we're teachers!) places to go, things to do, food to eat...

Many thanks!
29  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: first reverse applique and free form machine embroidery! first Tute added! on: November 01, 2006 06:12:40 AM
It might fray a little on the edges, depending on what fabric you're using, but if you're stitching it multiple times, I should think it would hold up.

Thanks for all the comments, everbody. I feel loved.  Kiss

The buttons were from Walmart. Smiley The tacks are just the little ones you get in a pack of 20 or so for a dollar Smiley
