1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Crafty Vinyl Knife Roll on: October 11, 2005 11:50:46 AM
So I finally finished this project that I've been working on for what seems like forever... It's not beautiful by any means because I have literally have NO sewing experience.. However... I made this super cute kniferoll for my gf who is a pastry chef at two local restaurants. Basically I searched the net for examples of various kniferolls, spoke with the gf about what she needs and voila... the monkey roll! If anyone is interested, I can post how I made it and perhaps you can improve on my design... There are definite flaws, but since this is one of two completed sewing projects I think it came out pretty ok!

*just a side note... I used my brand new to me kenmore mini sewing machine... the thing effin RAWKS! I did break a couple of needles sewing over seems, but all in all it's been a handy dandy little machine... I can't recommend it enough!
2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Resin? Help? resin jewelry... casting... need suggestions... on: January 27, 2005 08:27:34 AM
I've been browsing many of the threads concerning resin and I'm not sure if my particular situation applies.. I'm not even sure if resin is what I should be working with...
Here's the situation...
My s/o made me a ring this past weekend... A very important engagement type (but not really because we're both horribly poor) ring. It's a ricola wrapper taped together to make a ring. What I would like to do is dip it in plastic (or something else?) and make it permanent, yet still be able to tell what it is/was.
Firstly... if I'm going to use a resin... should I make a mold? How would I do that if I'm going to be making a functional piece of jewelry? Another thing I was thinking was just "dipping" it into resin, but since I've never used it, I'm not quite sure how that would work. How would I dry it? If I dipped it would whatever I used to dip it in leave a mark? Is resin something I can smooth and polish with my trusty dremel attachments? Can I paint on the resin?
Any and ALL suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
