1  Re: Star Wars Party.... in Party Planning by dogwoodbonsai on: August 13, 2010 12:30:12 AM
I just made a Death Star piñata last week for a wedding.

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=356499.msg4174591#msg4174591

As I say in my post, while attacking the piñata, please play the Imperial March loudly!

2  Recent Piñatas...Death Star and Swamp Monster in Party Planning by dogwoodbonsai on: August 13, 2010 12:18:08 AM
I've had a busy year for piñata making.

The Death Star

This was made for my dear friends' wedding last weekend.  If you ever make one of these be sure to play the Imperial March while destroying it...it really adds to the experience.  In fact the loud, intimidating music combined with dark lights and some lighting effects made one child burst into tears!

It was quite a success.  I used a beach ball for the shape...the hardest part was the paint job which was mostly just time consuming.

Earlier in the summer I made a swamp monster.

This was for a friend's birthday party/annual get together along the shores of Lake Erie.

There is a bar crawl in Geneva-on-the-Lake...it's called the Monster Crawl, hence the swamp monster.  To make this one I used one regular balloon, 2 small skinny balloons and some thin cardboard.  I used metallic paint, crepe paper, garland and moss for train set models to complete it.

Here's a blurry shot that shows the back.

In May I made a piñata for a friend's birthday party.
It was a simple but cute king character.

I had fun decorating this one.  I used some large plastic eyes and other plastic objects to embellish the face and crown.

Thanks for looking!

3  Re: Halloween costume ideas for 2008 in Halloween Costumes by dogwoodbonsai on: September 17, 2008 05:24:24 PM
This week I decided I will be a Bearded Lady in circus type attire and a little sexy.

I'm still pondering the actual outfit.  I definitely will have a small hat with a veil attached to cover my beard and then unhook it and surprise everyone.  I'll wear a skirt for sure...I haven't worn pants on Halloween since I was 12.  Maybe a bustle, a vest and some gloves.

My only requirements are to use as many things that I already own,  buy as little supplies as possible and show a little cleavage.

Anyone have any good advice concerning fake beards???

Last year I was a Cigarette Girl/Usherette and I had a blast.  I wore a Bell Boy type hat and filled my tray with candy, mini cigars and toys.
Not the best photo but it gives you an idea.

"Hi!  My name's Earline and I'll be your waitress."

Truck stop waitress to be exact.  This costume is sooo much fun.  I pretty much stay in character the whole time... I can't stop.  I've done this four times now and will do it again, I'm sure.

6  Monkey Pinata in Completed Projects by dogwoodbonsai on: July 28, 2006 10:21:35 PM
I love making pinatas.  I've made quite a few in my days but this is by far the best one.  I made it for a Fourth of July party and it was filled to the top with goodies.  A handful of greedy children horded and made of with nearly every last bit, leaving nothing for the all the adults.  (Just a little bitter, it's important to share.)

The best pinata breaks out just on the bottom....the prizes all fall out and then someone can wear it on their head.  WoooHoooo
