This isn't necessarily crafty, but many operas are based off of novels that can be fairly easily found at your local bookstore. He might enjoy reading the books that inspired the music that he sings.

Perhaps you could sew or knit a bag for him to carry some of his computer things (cd's, cords, etc.) in while he travels? You could decoupage a small picture frame and then include a picture of your family so that he can look at it when he's away. You could burn songs that are special to your family onto a cd for him. You could make a small gift basket full of travel size toiletries, a phone card, a disposable camera, and other things he could use while traveling.

I hope these ideas help and I'm sure he'll be pleased with whatever you give him.

I tired to make one of these using a combination of wire and hot glue that turned out terribly. I just don't think I was patient enough to do it. What was your secret?

I made a Christmas gift basket for my husband's grandparents including embossed candles, a jingle bell wreath, two sets of Christmas cards, two types of Christmas cookies and hand painted ornaments. I tried making a few other crafts such as a wreath made our of ornaments and peppermint soap that didn't turn out so well. Anyway, I thought I'd share pictures of the finished product so you can comment and maybe give ideas for next year.

The final crafts and baked goods that went into the basket.

All assembled!
