6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Receiving blanket flowers... on: June 27, 2007 10:03:19 AM
Inspired by this post.

Crafted flower buds out of receiving blankets. I used receiving blankets from the $1 Store, folded them lengthwise and rolled them. I stuck a tongue depressor in one of the creases in the bottom of the roll. I then used basting pins to secure them. I wrapped them in tulle and tied them at the base of the blanket with ribbon. They were then stuck in a green foam base to look like flowers!
7  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Greek Feta Casserole substitution? on: June 12, 2007 06:30:38 PM
I have a recipe that I want to use to cook up this other half of ground pork I bought... I am trying to see if I can substitute an ingredient and it will turn out okay.

Here's the recipe:

1/2 c. uncooked elbow macaroni
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 T milk
1/2 c. crumbled feta cheese, divided
1/2 lb. ground pork
2 T chopped onion
1/2 c. tomato sauce
1/8 to 1/4 t ground cinnamon

Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain.  In a bowl, combine the egg, milk, and 1/4 c. cheese.  Stir in macaroni.  Transfer to a greased 3 c. baking dish.  In a skillet, cook pork and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain.  Stir in tomato sauce and cinnamon.
Pour over macaroni mixture.  Sprinkle with remaining cheese.  Cover and bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.  Uncover; bake 12-16 minutes longer or until bubbly and heated through.

I don't have elbow macaroni but I do have whole wheat linguine... can I substitute the linguine for the macaroni?

9  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Rachael Ray... love and hate. on: May 20, 2007 06:31:50 PM
I like Rachael Ray a lot and can just imagine how wonderful her food tastes...

The only problems I'm encountering with her meals is that she calls for A) very expensive items and B) stuff that isn't easily found in my midwestern grocery stores.

Does anyone else have these problems?  Any suggestions of how I can bypass them?
