I got it in my head to try crocheting a turtle, though I don't know why, I'm not that into turtles.



Mel is a mutant because she has a pink shell and two tails. The pictures don't show it too well, but she has a sad look on her face. Her head is somewhat outsized (and how), but I decided with was appropriate in the end. Mel was made without a pattern, as is obvious.

I was thinking of doing something more extreme with her, but I don't want to let personal ambition outpace my abilities. This is only my second crochet animal. She's far from perfect, but as a paperweight (stuffed with polyfill and aquarium gravel), she functions fine. And maybe she'll cheer up with a purpose in life.

Ahem.

I love these, I was actually thinking of making some... but you beat me to it. I could never work out how to make the broccoli, though. Now I'm even more motivated to try my hand at it.

And I reckon you could sell each item for at least US$20, with maybe a $5-$10 discount if someone buys the lot.

Nigel is stuffed with polyfill and a wee bag of aquarium gravel to give him some heft.

... hmmm... he'd make a good stressball, come to think. He's the right size.

One of my friends just called me Grandma because he came to meet me at the coffee shop and I was crocheting. He meant it in a nice way, though, he likes my craft projects and just likes to wind people up. I can't really be bothered about what other people think, I'm enjoying myself.

Having decided to look at pictures of penguins _after_ I made Nigel (I really think ahead), I now see that he's a little... inaccurate. Hmmm. Ah well. I think I'll make him a friend.

I'm not sure if this counts as amigurumi, but it's an animal, and was mainly crocheted in circles.




His name is Nigel, and he's my first amigurumi project. I am really bad at following other people's patterns (I have the attention span of a puppy), so I made up my own, i.e. wrote things down as I did them. He is not totally even, but I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.

I was about 9 when i first picked it up. I think I got really good at making chains (funny that) and could single crochet and then lost interest. I completely forgot about the craft. I've been looking enviously at the great amigurumi on Etsy, and I finally decided, last week, to buy a crochet needle and try again. I can still only do chains and single crochet!
