1  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / Glow-in-the-Dark & Translucent Question on: February 19, 2012 11:15:54 PM
Hey there Smiley

I'm newish to polymer clay and have an idea for a project that I want to do (inspired by this: http://propnomicon.blogspot.com/2012/02/shining-trapezohedron.htm).  But for what I have in mind, I don't want it to glow quite so brightly.  I was thinking that if I put a thin layer of translucent Sculpey over GITD Sculpey that it would make the Shining Trapezohedron look more like it was shining from the inside only and not shining on the surface. (I hope that makes sense)

Has anyone tried doing this?  Do you think it would work?

As soon as I can get my hands on some GITD Sculpey, I'm going to do a couple tests to see if my idea will work, but I wanted to put it here just in case someone has tired this.
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / My First Pair of Socks! on: June 20, 2011 12:11:19 AM
After having a few unsuccessful attempts at sock knitting, I've finally finished a pair of socks.  I'm not 100% happy with them (the cuffs are a bit loose) but I love the colors and the pattern of the yarn. Cascade Heritage Paints in Tropical Seas.

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Help modifying a sock pattern? on: June 17, 2011 12:48:35 AM
I really want to knit a pair of Riff socks from Knitty (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEdf10/PATTriff.php) but I have super big feet (size 14 D).  I know that I just have knit more on the foot to make it longer, but I'm not sure how to modify it to make it wider.  Just add more stitches on either side of the pattern?  Is it that simple?

Any help is greatly appreciated Cheesy
4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Working with vinyl on: May 18, 2008 12:45:18 PM
HI all!  I'm a new sewer who just finished his first messenger bag for a friends birthday (and she snatched it up before I could get a pic to post on the boards here).

I'm in need of some advice/information.  How is it working with vinyl?  I saw a shower curtain at Wal-mart last night that I desperately want to make into a messenger bag.  Should I go for it, or scrap the idea and try to find a similar pattern in fabric?

Thanks

Drew
5  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Son of Stitch n Bitch on: September 22, 2007 10:03:58 PM
Hey everyone!  Everyone here probably already knows that the latest SnB will be out in November, and I'm hoping that's true.

I love the things that end up in the SnB books, but I'm a crocheter, not a knitter, has heard what the ratio of crochet to knit projects in Son of SnB is?

I don't want to spend money on just a few patterns, if it's about 50:50, I'll definitely buy it, but any less crochet than that and I'm going to have to pass.
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Y.O. Felting Q. AGAIN on: September 12, 2007 11:58:04 AM
Sorry this is going to be rushed, but I need to know something.

At about what rate does wool felt...or shrink.  Like what size do you have to make your pre-felted item to be the right size post-felted?

Thanks,
Drew
7  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Large Round Ripple=Tedious Work on: January 24, 2007 11:02:07 PM
My friend moved into a new apartment in December and since then I've been working on a house warming present.  She moved in the 15th, I finished the blanket today.  It was the longest I've ever spent on a project, but I like how it turned out.  The blanket is 5.5 feet in diameter at the points.

8  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Mens Sweater Pattern? on: November 27, 2006 02:42:35 PM
I've been meaning to make a sweater for a while now, but I can only find this pattern

http://craftyarncouncil.com/projects/jan_crochproj.html

for a men's sweater, and I don't like it at all.

Does anyone know of another pattern (preferrably free) that would be for a guy?

Thanks,
Drew
9  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Pink Purse Plus Other Stuff on: April 21, 2006 12:16:52 AM
Hey all!  It's been a while since I posted last, and I just caught up with taking pictures.  However, I forgot to take pitures of my best stuff...I suppose I was in a hurry to give them to their respetive owners.

Anyway, here is a Pink Purse and two bracelets.  I crocheted the purse nearly 2 months ago and the bracelets I crocheted in the last two days.

Purse: Red heart acrylic and some "fun fur" thingy I found., approx. 6 inches "square" and three inches deep (apparently not big enough for the friend it was intended for, so I'm going back for round 2)
Bracelet 1: white cotton with purple ribbons
Bracelet 2: black nylon with white button

I hope no one is offended by my incredibly hairy manly wrists Smiley (j/k a joke between friends)
10  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Ounce/Yard Help on: March 18, 2006 07:55:30 PM
I want to make a blanket, but I don't know how much yarn I should buy.  I want the blanket about 38x80 inches, and I think I'm just going to do it sc the whole way with a K hook.

Any help is wonderful!
