1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Bulky Yarn Wheel? on: December 01, 2007 01:09:33 PM
After babysitting my friend's wheel for a year I'm ready to purchase. Though my interest is in spinning up more bulky type art yarns. Can anyone recommend a wheel that would best meet that need (plus be somewhat portable and double treadled? - I'll skip the portability bit if I have to).
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Beginner Project Ideas? on: November 23, 2007 12:56:56 PM
Any ideas for a beginner knitting project that would attract first time knitter to a class? I have been volunteered to teach a knitting class and the woman who volunteered me  says she was sure I'd come up with something clever and I'm, like,  Undecided

The budget for materials is $10 so, basically one skein of non-acrylic yarn so I was thinking maybe wrist warmer, or keyhole scarf, ankle warmer, I don't know!
3  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Summer Dungerees on: July 30, 2007 03:04:20 PM

This was a super fast we need something summer-y for the visit to grandmas' place project. The pattern's from a book called The Children's Year. Lots of easy-sew projects in there. They're called dungerees. I think the books British but dungerees sounds like an Australian word. Maybe I'm thinking of Dundee?

4  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Felted Wallet on: July 10, 2007 03:57:09 PM

I finally got around to wet felting a wallet and turned out pretty alright. I used a cardboard resist and wasn't totally sure the layers would work out but they did (with a little bit of trimming with scissors).

Threw in a zipper for change pocket and now my money and id are warm and cozy. The blog entry's http://whiletangerinedreams.typepad.com/while_tangerine_dreams/2007/07/felt-like-a-new.html.
5  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Fairy Dress on: June 23, 2007 10:55:30 AM

Edie was invited to a butterfly birthday part. Her butterfly outfit turned into a fairy princess outfit though I might make some felted butterflies to flutter around her skirt.

This is a Macall's 4887 pattern. Story at http://whiletangerinedreams.typepad.com/while_tangerine_dreams/2007/06/i-make-fairies.html
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / What to knit for Babysitter? on: November 27, 2006 05:41:17 PM
I just decided I'd like to make our 15 year old babysitter for xmas while on our road trip this week. What would a cool girl who says "sweet" alot like as a knitted item you think? I was thinking maybe a purse, or hat. I don't know. Any cool patterns you might know of?

8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Sublime Tea Towels on: March 15, 2006 10:52:17 AM
I made these for a friend who was sick last week - she's all better now  Smiley

Here's the pic:

My first embroidery project, it was fun! From the Sublime stitch kit. Any suggestions on good transfer techniques so I can come up with original stuff?

*edited to add the photo more user-friendlier!
