Yeppers, I did the smocking before I sewed the dress. I ended up giving the dress to a friend of mine who is due mid-May. She loved it!

I'm not sure of the name of the plate that I used.  My grandmother was a MASTER smocker, and I have no idea what happened to all of her plates and her pleater  Cry  I really miss smocking, and I'm just hoping I can find someone in my area that has a pleater!

Yuppers, I had a pleating machine do the pleating for me... It was my grandmother's, but I don't know what happened to it after she passed away.  I'm kinda sad about not knowing what happened to it because I enjoy smocking and don't know anyone who has a pleater thingy.  I have one last pleated dress though that I'm doing a Christmas motif...

Hi!  I just wanted to share a couple of pics of a baby dress I smocked.  I did every stitch by hand, and even though it took FOREVER, I thought it turned out well.  But I'm anxious to hear what my fellow Craftsters have to say about it (good or bad.) So any feedback whatsoev is welcome!  Thanks for looking!
