11  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: The Pringles Can Fill-Er-Up Challenge 3 Gallery on: January 26, 2007 08:03:47 AM
YAY I'm so glad you liked every thing!
I have a few more pictures Im gona post
I thought that the glow in the dark bracelets would be like wands going with the out side of the Pringles container  Grin

So here is a picture of the whole thing

This is an up-close of the headband and cell phone case, this is my newest obsession, and it is a good way to curb my tie collection

Three of the atcs are mine and three are by my mother who wanted to play along as well  Cheesy the three that are mine are the first atcs I have ever made, and they were a lot of fun, Im worried this could become an addiction! Im trying to decide if my drawing teacher would accept my home work in atc form haha anyways here is an up-close of them. Mine are the one on top left, and the two on the bottom left

Im so glad you liked every thing! I had so much fun with this swap!

Who knew the circumference of the Pringles container would be so small, I think that is my largest problem at the moment... arg I wish I could wave my magic wand and make it larger.... *sigh*

I'm so excited I think I have to go run off to go get some Pringles for the can. Does any one have any hints to washing it? Because Pringles are definitely greasy, and I dont want to send PaperBag crafts that smell like potato chips.
Thanks

15  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / First memory of fire" Sand Blasting and Hot molding on: January 06, 2007 09:01:19 AM
My first assignment last semester in glass blowing was based on "my first memory of fire" and we needed to show it using shaped glass, since we hadnt yet started blowing. I have two first memories of fire, one was of sitting on my great aunts lap catching the smoke that came from her cigarette, and her telling me not to, my other was of trying to light my finger on fire during a preschool show of my class singing this little light of mine. Ok so I have always been a bit of a pyro, and I decided showing my teacher that on the first week of class was a bad idea. Also my great aunt recently died and she is my hero in life, she was the first woman in mass to join the marines and she later didnt follow the social norm either. So doing a piece on her seemed a good idea.
 This is the finished piece

And another shot

To make this I took a picture of her and used hot glue to go over the main lines such as around her face, her lips her eyes etcetera. Next I used it on the hair and to create the "Smoke", after this I sand blasted the whole thing, the hot glue left the lines I wanted. Then using oil sticks and oil pastels I "painted" the colours I wanted on it. I had also shaped my "Cigarette" sand blasted and painted that as well. Using UV glue I glued it on the bottom, and my final piece was done.

19  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Glass Blowing School on: December 18, 2006 06:28:13 AM
well i go to art school out in the boonies of new york. pretty much its like any other major in the art world, i needed to take freshman foundations, sophomore year i had to take 4 diffrent art classes of diffrent medias, Jr year i can settle down into the two medias i love, and Sr year i will be mounting a large show. as for actual assignments sophomore year has been pretty basic, though our teacher doesn't try to limit us on our ability's to blow. our first project was just using solid work, and from there on in we were expected to actually blow our projects. Being an undergrad and going into glass blowing at least at my school is a life changing decision. my blow slots this semester were Wednesday at 5 am till 9, and Saturday 5 am till 11. to be able to get up for these i had to go to bed at about 8 and get up at 4 YUCK. it has really weeded out the people who dint want to continue though. Jr years blow slots aren't looking better either, they get a 5am to 8 am slot as well as an 11pm to 2am slot. personally I'm not looking forward to that because i am a morning person, i can easily get up at 3 and get lots of work done, but staying up late isn't something my body does very well. i think lots of naps will be in order. this summer to stay "in shape" I'm looking to intern at a studio by my home town, and teach in a smaller studio in the surrounding area. if you have any questions about glass blowing definitely ask me!
