1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Completely Machine Stitched Binding Tutorial (pic heavy) on: September 06, 2013 11:52:51 AM
ok.....seriously... the parallel folded line with the iron is brilliant. THAT's where I could never machine bind, the seams on the front and back wouldn't line up on the front and back of the binding. The folded center...omg. I want to kiss you!   Kiss

5  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Tokyo Subway Map on: June 30, 2011 09:33:00 AM
Thank you all so much! I didn't start the quilt with the quilt-along. I found it after it was finished. LOL

When I started, I thought for sure that I had enough fabrics in my stash. I didn't. I have more decorator fabrics than cottons in my stash...so I bought a few fat quarters here and there. I had 3 prints for the longer lines and 2 prints for the shorter lines. My fabric variety is limited....but I really like the way it ended up.

This is Elizabeth Hartman's design. It's a "stylized interpretation" of the Tokyo Subway system. The applique on the back is from her pattern.

If you look at the flickr group of the other quilters who have done this quilt, there are a LOT of different styles. Some with black background instead of white. Some with different backs. Someone even took the actual Tokyo Subway Map and duplicated it! Soooo cool!

Raindancing - it is a meander! I did a boxy style...my very first EVER machine quilting. I'll be making many more. This was so much fun!

My husband is thrilled with it. While I was making it, he told all our kids he isn't sharing. My youngest called him a "meanie head" because he wasn't going to share. I finished it around 8pm one night....it was an hour or two later, she was sleeping with his blankie.

I've finished the Tokyo Subway Map Quilt! YAY!!!!

I'm pleased with the final product. It's not nearly as good as Elizabeth Hartman's www.ohfransson.com...but I'm ok with that. She is my current idol and I kinda have a girl crush on her.

I have been doing various crafts all my life. I've been married to my husband for a hundred years (maybe not quite THAT long). I have never made him anything. He asked me early in our relationship to make him a blanket. I started to crochet him an afghan back then but never finished. It was one of those things that I didn't like how it was turning out so I never finished it. Oops.

So this year, I decided to finally do something for the love of my life.

He loves it.

Ooooh! I saw Andre the Giant in the thumbnail and just had to click on this!  I love your stitchwork!  I grew up in a wrestling fan home. I love all the old wrestlers!

You should do Rowdy Roddy Piper and Hulk Hogan, too!
