1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Cross-Stitch Baby Gifts on: August 22, 2013 08:29:46 PM
I'm at that stage in life where a lot of my friends/coworkers are having babies, so I've taken to making gifts for the expected bundles of joy. These are three that all have cross-stitched patches sewn onto them.

This is a jacket for a coworker whose son was born in February- the jacket pattern came from a book called One-Yard Wonders, and the Apple cross-stitch pattern was created from a picture using a piece of Mac software called Stitches. I made it on Aida cloth, then cropped and machine-stitched it to the jacket.
Jacket back:

Close-up:

For another coworker, a hooded towel with the same Apple patch for his daughter born in January. The towel pattern is from www.sew4home.com. It's big enough for a toddler to fit into.

Lastly, same towel for a friend from grad school, with a dove on the hood. Daughter expected next month!

oh! I really wish I could do it again! The last two years were fun. I'll have to see how I fare with overnight recording sessions every week...going back to school this fall....

Yay I'm so glad you and Chloe liked everything, dyingtolive! I just *happen* to work in a shop that sells the monkey keycovers, so I grabbed them as soon as I saw your wist. With the nativity scene, I was going with the "non-breakable" idea, since you said your first one broke.

Enjoy! And thanks for being an awesome partner!

Ack! I could've sworn I'd taken pictures of everything...but I missed one day. And I thought I was so good, updating my gallery before bed. I guess it'll have to wait till tomorrow...

Everyone's galleries look great!

The first thing out of my package from Shauna was for my little girl for her 2nd birthday!  It was a really adorable coloring book and melted star crayon.  I will post a picture tomorrow.  My daughter LOVED it!  And she says "Tank eww" Shauna!  Grin

Aw, she is very welcome!

And now I must say, the CRAYON was my big disaster. Because originally, there were supposed to be a whole set of different-shaped crayons. I spent 3 hours peeling crayons, breaking them, and putting them in cookie-cutters, then into the oven on a cookie sheet. Well, the cookie-sheet moved when the heat got to a certain point, and ALL the cookie-cutters leaked, making a giant mass of dark brown crayon. It took me 4 hours to clean the cookie sheet and all the cookie cutters, but I'm still not sure I got all the wax off, and there weren't enough crayons left to try again with the melt-and-pour method I did for the star.

So thanks Krystle, for the new and 100% wax-free cookie cutters!

and firebird's set of stuff so cute! whats the story behind the cookie cutters?

I will explain after dyingtolive has opened her Day 8...let's just say it has to do with that disaster of a project I had a month ago....

Right now all the gifts sitting under the tree has my whole family intrigued and they want me to wait every day until they are around and awake to open the gifts so they can see too. Now is that going to happen?? ?PFFFTTTT NO WAY! Not waiting till 6 pm every night when the teen aged girls may or may not be here and everyones rushing around to finish hw and make dinner and the thrill is totally lost on them.

Ha! I opened mine last year with my roomate, who was very curious and just as excited as me, but she just also happened to be around and looking for study breaks...Smiley

I finally opened the big box from dyingtolive last night, as we got our Christmas tree set up. She wrote cute little labels on the tags, like "this is Crazy Day!" so now I'm even more curious than I was before...Sadly I may not get to open until very late Friday night, but can't wait!

I am about to plunge into my grad school application portfolio, and I will not be sleeping until it's done. And THEN, I can finish the second half of Day 1. Off I go!
