51  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Rainbow family gathering swap on: May 23, 2006 02:47:10 PM
I thought it would be cool to do a swap of things that would be useful for the Gathering. Like camp pillows, fire stokers, instruments, camp gear, meal packs, receipes... I could go on and on... anyway, the Gathering is coming up and I thought we could get started soon with sign ups...

Brothers and sisters are you with me?!?!
52  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Sweat shoppe swap round 2! Sign ups closed (the LIST on pg 25) on: May 12, 2006 11:36:00 AM
Alright everyone, here we go again... round two has officially begun...
Sign ups are long per requests of a number of participants now to June 1.
Here's the gallery from round 1 http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=90990.0
 Gallery for round 2 http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=16740155.0

The point of this swap is to sweat your buns off making 5 of the same items, and send them to 5 people, and you will receive 5 different items in return. This is a sampler type swap, for those of us who have crafty businesses or who would like to drum up some personal swap advertising and get our crafty goods some exposure!

There have been a couple of slight changes to details please read carefully;
This is the sweat shop swap, a labor of love if you will! The opportunity to put a sampler of your items out in the crafting world, with a business card, or your Etsy store location, is here! We will be crafting in multiples of 5 (and no more than 10) so you may craft 5 items or 10 items (not 6 or 4 or 11). The number of items you craft will be the number of items you receive back. The items will be a medium size, and can be 'bundles', for instance, you can do a bundle of 3 thank you cards, and send 5 bundles (or 15 cards). You will have the option of choosing your top 2 favorite items of the other crafters. No guarantees but I will try to get everyone at least one of their two favorites! When you are approved for the swap you will simply put your name here with your sweat shop item after being approved, by June 2. See discussion here; http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=84367.0 if you like!

Swap name: Sweat shoppe swap round 2
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: javastain
Sign-up date range: now - June 1
Date to send item by: Must send out items by June 19
Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): no
Non-U.S. participants allowed? Of course!
All ages allowed? Or 18+?  Sure, but make sure your parents are fine with it!
Organizer is aware of users with negative feedback and will not allow those members to participate: Oh yes.

Ok the rules...

~This is a sampler swap. You must craft (5) of the same item, you may put your name in the 'hat' twice, so you may craft 10 items to receive 10 items back... you may do 10 of the same item or 5 of one item and 5 of another.

~ Your craft must be one of the best things you do, this is not a time to try something new

~ These are to be a medium project, meaning (it should take you at least 4 hours and $7 in supplies for all 5 items) or (a retail price of between $4-$9 each). This can be balanced out if it takes you longer but you use a less costly supply or vice versa...

~ When PM-ing your info to the organizer (Javastain) please also add a name and description of your craft(s).

~ When you are approved post your items(s) here, so people have an idea of what you are submitting and can make their top pick choices. Pictures would be awesome!

~ Wait for a list of items to show up on this thread, then PM organizer with your top 2 'wanted' choices (no
guarantees! but I will try!) by June 3... (you have two days to pick your fav's). In round 1 there was no problem getting everyone their top 2 fav's... If I don't get a PM from you, I will assume you don't have a preference.

~ a random matching of recipients will occur on or around June 4th (depending on how many people get their requests in to me). You may contact your recipients for flavor/color/size or style options. Please also PM your sender's your mailing address as well as sending to the organizer.

~ I will be doing check in PM's, if you do not respond to check in's you will be eliminated from the swap.

~ Send your 5 items out on June 19th. Please DO NOT SEND early without checking with javastain first.

~ include any information about your project (order information or your Etsy address) with your packages!

~ Sign ups close June 1, send outs June 19

55  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Taking pictures of your wearables... FYI on: April 14, 2006 01:22:53 PM
Hi I hope this is in the right spot for this suggestion... but I have noticed that there are many pictures of awesome clothing items (or other wearables) that people model and photograph themselves in their bathroom mirror and the picture is either fuzzy or otherwise unclear because of either the flash flashing back in the mirror or hairspray and other drips in the way... well can I suggest something? Use the mirror to see the viefinder and focus the camera right on you... so, you turn the camera around like you're doing a self portrait, and use the mirror to view the photo for centering and focus, and snap the picture of you rather than your mirror image! Is that clear? or muddy? I hope this helps someone, at least me, so I can see your cool stuff and not your aquafresh...  Grin
Ok, thanks for humoring me!...

57  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Yet another 'what to charge!'...for the eco-flo-busters this time on: March 22, 2006 02:40:03 PM
Ok so, first of all thanks for helping! I am always giving my opinion in these threads of what to charge, because I am so opinionated! But now I want your opinions! I have been PM'd a couple of times about the "Mature topic Ladies only Eco-flo-busters" ; http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=82588.0 and people are wanting to buy them... How would you package them? Would you do like 6 or 10 or 12? Sell only in packs, or sell individually too? What would you charge or rather what would you pay? I am not really into it for making a whole lotta dough, so I am really open and will not be insulted by what everyone says here, really! I promise! I recently gave 10 to a friend for her birthday, and we usually spend about 25 bucks on each other for birthdays...

By the way, there is another pic of a different one on pg. 12 of the thread, those took much longer to make, and do not really 'perform' any different... but I think that people would have the pre-conceived notion that they are more comfortable... I would be into different styles including organic, and colors... what about that? Or is that just crazy talk?

Thanks again everyone!!!

58  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Drum covers=My Djembe and Ashiko are no longer naked! on: March 22, 2006 01:40:38 PM
SO I whipped up the blue cover (on the ashiko) at a Family Gathering because I was certain I (actually I was nervous about the people around me! Smiley ) was going to RUIN my baby! I had a size H crochet hook with me, and an extra sheet just in case.
And I was so pleased that I made another when I got home for my Djembe and a matching drum protector for when I'm 'tink tinkin' along with my dununs, I started with one on my Sangba, and plan on making one each for the Kenkeni, and Dunumba. BUt I need more bells!!!

I used a size H hook for the blue one that's all I had with me! But I've since found a BIG wooden hook at a thrift store for the green ones, MUCH better!

SO here they are, a few sheets, some single crocheting, and a whole lotta muscle later....

And here you can see that they double as a tip jar/request basket!!! Smiley

(I didn't realize this pic was so blurry! Sorry!)

Thanks for looking!!!
59  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Sweat Shoppe swap-(**discuss round 7: bottom pg 70) on: March 12, 2006 05:02:03 PM
Ok, so I had this idea, what if we could make a 'batch' of the same thing, and send it to ten people. Like lip gloss, or a bundle of cards, or crocheted flowers, or barrettes, or altoid tin remakes, or bake cookies, or whatever you can offer.... and then we send to 10 people and then 10 people send to us? We could make it 5 or 8 or whatever... we could limit it to 10 people or we could match it up... does this sound like I'm nuts? I think this could work out very well, I am always wanting to join a swap, but I get stumped on what to make in a theme sometimes, this time we are free to make what inspires us, and what we can do well, in bulk! Just a quick project, something that will only take a couple/few hours to make ten of... I like to get my stuff out and power craft, and then put it all away before someone chokes on something! Whaddiya think?

My mom and I used to make and sell Hemp dishclothes to sell at a local shop, and we used to call it the 'sweat shoppe' when we were on the couch with hemp flying!
60  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Mature topic-ladies eco-flow busters*** MORE PICS ADDED!*** on: March 01, 2006 09:38:03 PM
Here you have it, 100% cotton single crochet, cotton stuffed, reusable tampons! Check out the thread about reusable pads... read some of the comments if you need some encouraging!
I was inspired by a comment by Taloola on about page 48 or so for these guys, yes they might look uncomfortable but I don't think they will be... I'll try them in about a week and modify if anyone is interested on how they went!

THREAD link...
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=18462.0;topicseen

Ok, well if you follow the thread here, you will understand a little more about the revolution that is happening! Smiley  anyway, here are some samples of what you'll see, and there will be organic and I am also looking into hemp silk...

If you have any P's or Q's PLEASE feel free to PM me or comment here... I am happy to put links in to the different sites I have found educational etc....
Thanks everyone for your encouragement to just do this!!!
