21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / craftster afghan/quilt swap ... on: February 11, 2007 10:55:15 PM
So, this idea is a spin off of another thread... but how about we start a swap for our craftster quilts and afghans... we can quilt, crochet, knit, or otherwise construct, quilt/afghan squares, like say 3 (or 5) at a time, send out to 3 people, and get 3 back... we can have a predetermined size (like 4X4 or 8X8) and maybe we can pick to swap fabric squares, yarn squares, or both... then you can join as many rounds as you like, to receive as many squares as you like and you have yourself a craftster quilt!!! (well the makings of one, all you have to do is assemble!!!)
Other thread; http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=148223.0
and maybe while we are at it we can send one square to the 'cause'!
22  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Sweat shoppe swap round 8,9,10 and now 11 (pg 55)! Links in first post! on: February 09, 2007 02:19:47 PM
** edit for link to current swap sign ups, now to July 11th http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=179945.0 **

So we have been going strong in the sweat shoppe swaps, as we are gearing up for round 8. I thought I'd give new people a chance to understand the sweat shop swap, ask questions, discuss and brainstorm...

So, basically the sweat shoppe swap is a sampler swap. You make 5 like items and get 5 different items back. There are no 'partners' per se, you will send to 5 random people, and will receive from 5 other people. There is an opportunity for you to pick your favorite things from the other sweat shoppers, and the organizer makes a GIANT effort to match you up with those items. The items you submit should be resonably close to a retail price of $7-$10. If you are unsure of the value your item, post a new topic in the business discussion thread and ask people, OR you can ask here. Please don't ask me to judge your work!!! Smiley

PLease feel free to ask any questions you might have. I will post all the links to other sweat shoppe swaps shortly!

Here we go again, again!
In a nut shell the sweat shoppe swap is a grab bag style swap. Everyone crafts 5 like items, and in return you will receive 5 different items. Here are the details;

Swap name:Sweat Shoppe Swap Round 7 (SSS7)
Craftster member who is organizing this swap:javastain
Sign-up date range:Now to Jan 21st
Date to send item by:Feb 6th

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional):NO

Restricted to people who all live in the same country?NO

All ages allowed? yes

This next part is for me and the Mods...
Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES
Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES/NO
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES/NO
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES/NO
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES/NO
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES/NO

Details of swap:
~Each participant will make 5 like items. For instance, 5 crocheted cloche hats (varied colors or the same it doesn't matter), or 5 sets of hand painted beads.
~Each item/set should be the best representation of your work, and have an estimated retail value of between $7-$10 USD. If you have any doubt, post your item in the business discussion board and see what others there think. Or you may post in the sweat shoppe discussion thread http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=84367.0 ,
~ When sign ups close, I will ask everyone for a 'top picks list'. That list is a wish list, from the items that are offered, and there will be an effort to match to you, as many items on your list, the remainder of items will be randomly placed. The top picks list is due Jan 22.
~We have a system for sending early; the master list of swappers will be color coded for those who are ready to receive items. When you are finished crafting, you will PM me, and I will change the color of your name on the master list to green, at that time you may send to any other green/ready person! I will also send out a check in PM for those who are not finished early, and at that time your status will be determined.
~ No DCN's are required, however, if a package fails to arrive, you will be required to send another, unless you save your receipt from the PO, and in that instance I will get an angel.
~ Feedback will be given when all 5 items are confirmed as received.
~ Positive feedback will be given for all people complying with the craftster swap guidelines. Late senders will be recorded in the comments section, as will poor communication. If I have to track you down, for confirming you have received or sent items, this is poor communication. When an item arrives at your door, you are expected to PM the sender of an item as well as me, javastain, and post in the gallery.
~ there are a lot of veteran sweat shoppers here, if you have any questions please feel free to ask your questions here OR you can PM me!
~ You may put your 'name in the hat' once (for 5 items) or twice (for 10 items)

26  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / January Birthday Swap! closed ~Happy Birthday! on: December 30, 2006 03:16:47 PM
PLEASE READ ALL RULES BEFORE YOU SEND YOUR INFO

NEW RULES: In order to comply with the new swap rules, ALL BIRTHDAY BABES WHO POST A BIRTHDAY WISH LIST MUST FULFILL A BIRTHDAY WISH OF AT LEAST ONE FELLOW BIRTHDAY BABE.  In other words, if you post a list and receive a gift, you must send at least one gift.  Non-birthday craftsters may still send "unconditionally".  Unconditionally in this swap means if someone fulfills one of your birthday wishes, you will send them a thank you note via snail mail.  PM's or thank you posts do not count as thank you notes.  Negative feedback will be given for those who post lists and receive, but never send.  Negative feedback will also be given to those who don't send a thank you note. Please read below for the exact details.  They are in BOLD.

DO NOT POST YOUR LIST UNTIL I SEND YOU A PM SAYING TO DO SO

Swap name: January 2007 Birthday Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: javastain--I AM A JANUARY BABE (organizers may change every month)
FOR POSTING BRITHDAY LISTS Sign-up date range: 1/01/07-1/20/07
FOR CHOOSING A BIRTHDAY WISH TO FULFILL Sign-up date range: 1/1/07-1/31/07
Date to send item by: 2 weeks after you claim someone unless other arrangements are made ahead of time
Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): N
Restricted to people who all live in the same country? N
All ages allowed.
Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: Y

Details of swap:  This swap was organized so everyone can get something crafty for their birthday!  Please read the guidelines carefully.

    * If your birthday is in January, then you can post your birthday wish list for this month. To do that, you must first PM me with the Swap questionnaire filled out.
    * Once you have been approved, you may post your list of things that you would want to receive.  The more you think of, the better.  Please try to have a good mix of items on your list.  The last wish you will post is "a surprise."  Then you will post a bio about yourself, including where you are from and what day your birthday is.
    * Please post lists only.  No discussion on this thread please.
    * Everyone will then go through the lists and choose a craftster they want to send a birthday gift to.  Your birthday does not have to be in January for you to craft for someone.   If you want to choose someone, just PM me with your info (including your address, please), who you want to craft for, what item, and I will send you their address.
    * When you choose to fulfill a birthday wish, you have 2 weeks to get the item out the door unless you communicate in advance that something will take a bit longer.  If two weeks pass, and I don't hear anything from youyou guessed it, negative feedback!
    * Each person can be chosen unlimited times!  HERE'S THE CATCH - when you get chosen, you must choose a fellow January babe to send a birthday wish to before 1/31/07.  You must also send the person who crafted for you a thank you note within 2 weeks of receiving.  Failure to do either of these things will result in NEGATIVE FEEDBACK.
    * It is super important for everyone to keep good communication.  When you send, let me know, and of course, don't forget the DC#.  When you receive, let me know and publicly announce in the gallery (even if you don't have pictures).  Also, let me know when you send off or receive your thank you note (no DC# required, you're on your honor!).
    * You can choose to craft for as many people as you like, but you cannot "owe" more than 3 things.  If you are a newbie and this is your first swap, you must successfully send once before choosing again.
    * Please state at the beginning of your list where you are located.  Some people absolutely cannot send to people overseas for any number of reasons.  We need to respect this valid concern.
*When one of your items is chosen, please cross it out so that it is easier for others to see what has been chosen.  It wouldn't hurt to thank the person at this time either.

If you have any more questions or suggestions, you can post on the link above, or send me a PM with "January 2007 Birthday Swap " in the subject line.

*NOTE: I have removed the questionnaire to make more room in this post!*
If you want to SEND TO A CRAFTSTER BIRTHDAY, information to send to organizer:

27  Calls for Swap Angels / Swap Angel Archive / Unique need for the sweat shoppe swap... received angel!THX serialcrafter! on: December 04, 2006 02:25:49 PM
ok, so the sweat shoppe swap is kinda like a sampler swap. Each participant is to make 5 medium-ish size items and some people 'put their name in the hat' twice so they make 10 items...
Soooo... I have a flaker that put her name in the hat twice...  therefore I actually need 10 items. So, I need either one or two people, that will do 5 (or 10) items!
The items in the sweat shoppe are designed to be a retail equivalent of between 5-10 bucks as we are advertising our shops or wares for personal swaps...

28  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / God save the queen! on: December 03, 2006 10:34:17 PM
Ok, so I was inspired by another crocheted crown as listed in the description, but you can see I modified the idea a bit... come check it out...http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=135768.80 scroll down! I was going for that crown that it seems might be the Queen's 'every day wear' crown, you know the one, she's wearing it in that picture you see all the time, I think she is in a 'smart' blue suit dress.... anyway, enjoy!

29  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Vintage? cotton rug yarn...what the heck is it? on: November 30, 2006 11:39:58 AM
Ok, so I scored this yarn, what I thought was just normal cotton yarn, at the thrift store the other day... it has a vintagy looking coats & clarks label and it says 100% cotton 'rug yarn' which I kinda missed upon initial scoping... so in the plasic baggie they packaged the 4-70yd skeins in, it looks innocent enough, pretty much like any other cotton yarn you get... but take the stuff out and it feels like it's been starched or something! Weird... so, what do you all know/think about it, can I just proceed with a project or is this stuff like going to melt if I get it out in the rain!?!
It also says "boilfast" on the label, and specifically "for making crocheted, hooked, woven, or shagy rugs and crocheted or knitted accessories" (rug accessories or personal accessories like a hat?!?) AND washing instructions are basically hand wash, re-shape, and lay flat to dry...
Thoughts?
Thanks!
PS~ I want to make a hat with it if that makes any difference....

Are you ready!?! Round 6 will be lightning fast! We are going to squeeze one more swap in here before the end of the year... can you do it!?! In traditional sweat shoppe style, we will be crafting a set of 5 items, which will be a medium size (with a retail value of between $7-$10) and sent off to 5 different people. Here are a few of the previous rounds and galleries; the original discussion/idea thread http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=84367.0 , last round, which was a little different than the 'classic' sweat shoppe swap http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=126087.0 , gallery for round 5;  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=132411.0 round 4 was 'themed' http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=118083.0  , gallery for round 4; http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=123012.0
Go ask questions in the discussion thread, don't be shy! You can run your ideas by us over there and show us your prototypes, we love to help you decide to join the mayhem!!!
Commonly asked questions;
Who am I crafting for? You will be crafting, one item (or a set) for 5 different people
What am I getting in return? You will receive 5 items, everyone gets to send the organizer a 'wish list' of items they would like to have. There are no guarantees, BUT you will get at least 2 items you wish for! The other items will be randomly selected.
So, is this like a sampler swap? YES! you got it!
Do all my crochet hats have to be the same color? NO, you do not have to make the exact same item for all 5 items, BUT they need to be one type of item, like 'crocheted hat'.
What if I make little things? You may make a set of things, like gift tags, or greeting cards. Place as many in as set as you think fulfill the item requirements!
