1  Re: (Old Fashioned) Random Swap 2009 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by javastain on: February 20, 2009 12:44:30 AM
Look at what I got, look at what I got!!! These are the goodies I received from the wonderful and often funny ThreadOrYarn aka Lillian!
First of all everything had a nice little note with it, but check out the paper... not just sticky notes, real neat-o fancy paper! Cheesy

Then there was a surprise! Only one of a set of arm warmers... I totally thought maybe after seeing some of my work, ThreadOrYarn thought I might be crafting with only one hand (or one tied behind my back! Grin) the other is on it's way (i'll let her explain!) but good thing, because I can't seem to get an action shot NOR can I get a proper shot of the whole shebang, but here's a macro of the armwarmer underneath the awesome beaded bracelet/bangle she sent... is that peyote stitch? I never could figure that one out! I love love love the color of the armwarmers by the way!!!

Then all that fiber! She sent, I dunno how much fun stuff to play with on my wheel! Here they are all together so nicely packaged...

And here are some that I tore into!
This one is angora... yum!

Check out the colors of this rolag! Makes me think of autumn!

Here's a bat, no not a flying nocturnal bug eater! Fiber you silly!

This shetland (right, it is shetland?) came from right close to where I live (I remember reading the label, saying to myself Hey! I need to go there!!!) Smiley I just learned how to tell the difference between the top side and the side next to the animal and have a fork and comb set now so this will be fun!!! Smiley

And lastly but not leastly, a bad picture of the 4"X4" squares for my craftster blankie... I totally wanted random colors and she went so far as to do some random patterns WHICH I LOVE! I still don't get how to do some of these fun things with knitting! Cheesy

OH! And I got candy... dove chocolates and chocolate coins I was maybe supposed to share with my kids, but they were gone so fast I almost forgot to post them! I do have photos somewhere, maybe I ate those too!!!Hahahhaaa!
Anyway, my package has not been sent yet, yes, I'm lame. Please everyone send ThreadOrYarn a big awwww PM so she doesn't feel left out! I have been done for some time, and have been insanely out of my mindly busy that the poor package is sitting next to the door, like a little doggy wishing to go out! I will, I promise, get your package out this weekend come H31l or high water! Smiley
Thanks so much Lillian, I really love it all!!!

Well these photos are a bit behind schedule but well worth the wait! I was completely spoiled by HOllistercobabe who sent me a BUNCH of resin pendants! I have one for every day of the week!!

Here's a picture of them all together!

This one gets the most attention from by standers! Check out the glitter! Smiley

This one was done with a sweet postage stamp! I have a few people at work trying to steal it from me!

These are a set of 3 'rings' in red white and blue, and somehow have the super cool recycle 'PET 5' in them! I don't know if this was done on purpose or not, but these are so cool! And more glitter!!! Grin

I think this one might be my favorite!

Thank you so much my friend, and I promise your goodies will get to you shortly!!!
Happy birthday everyone!

3  Re: Fiber Friday 3/28/2008 in Spinning: Completed Projects by javastain on: March 28, 2008 12:25:46 PM
Here's mine!!!
I think I've already explained that I have the best neighbor in the whole wide world, but for those of you that don't know/remeber java's fiber story here are the cliff notes: I got my wheel (a quirky Ashford Elizabeth) for $75 in the middle of February. I live next to a fiber hoarder and she unloaded a ton of things on me to 'practice' on... here's what I've done in the last two weeks (i was busy last Firday and missed Fiber Friday!!!)

This is 100% mohair. I long drew (?) one bobbin and tried getting more air into it... so that one turned out fairly bulky. Then the next one I tried the long draw but really really thin, then messed around with plying. I plied the bulky and thin for one skein, and then chain plied the rest of the thin stuff on its self! Commercially dyed top.

Here's a similar colorway, but this one is silk and mohair, chain plied and worsted draw. Comercially dyed top.

Here's a 100% wool that I worsted and chain plied. If it were up to me, I would call this one "banana tree"! It's not as purple as it looks here! The colors are very bright green and yellow and a mocha brown!

Here's some hemp that's currently on the wheel! What an experience this is!!!

4  Java's very first fiber friday! 2/22 in Spinning: Completed Projects by javastain on: February 22, 2008 04:39:40 PM
Woot! I got my wheel (Ashford Elizabeth) for 75$ two wednedays ago... the first yarn to come off my wheel is this hand dyed wool (Not dyed by me, but by the gal who sold me the wheel!):

I set the twist with some nifty help from you guys here, this is only singles...

Here's my next batch. I got this big bag of goodies from my neighbor (who's double car garage is full of fiber!), this is an experiemnt in dyeing (of hers) with mohair and silk (and some other wool that has a special name that I forgot!)
Anyway, it was tricky to say the least. All those fibers and their different [insert vocab word] fiber length! ACK! Anyway, I plied some and kept some singles:

Here it is plied:

Thanks for looking! Can you tell I'm stoked!?!?!?!

5  Eco-flow buster maxi! in Crochet: Completed Projects by javastain on: July 01, 2007 10:48:09 PM
If the sewers can do it so can we!... crochet your own maxi pad!
This wonderful purple pad is just right for those that are a bit too squeemish for the original eco-flow butser crochet tampon!

This pad is made out of hemp grown organically and died with an environmentally friendly dye process. The removable inside is made with old towels so you can make them as thick or thin as needed.

You may be wondering if this thing will be uncomfortable. Yes, it will be at first, so I am going to wash it a couple times before I use it. We all know that stiff-grass-stage that hemp comes to us in, but did you know that after a few washings it gets softer like cotton or linen and after quite a number of washings it gets smooth like silk!
Thanks for looking!!!

6  Crochet mayflower crown (Swap spoiler for TANZA) in Crochet: Completed Projects by javastain on: June 27, 2007 03:21:27 PM
Ok, so first I have to say, I usually hate swap spoiler posts... BUT I have to get this posted while I'm motivated and sitting here loading pictures!!!

So, Tanza and I did this for a personal swap, she sent me some hello kitty cloth pads and I am sending her this....

It's not my original idea. She sent me a pattern and I copied the basic idea. I did use the pattern for the flowers, but the leaves were tricky so I had to kinda wing them! Enjoy! I'd love to hear what you have to say!

Here's the "Melt with you bracelets"

These are done with melted plastics. I am playing with the oven in the next couple of days and may have a few more designs but there will be a variety. I too will be pre-crafting so I will let you all prioritize what I have on hand!

Here's the icecream cozies (scroll down to sewknitter's post)...

Would you like a crochet crown?

I'm stumped! I could do a cloche, a set of crochet flowers (for lapel/hat pins or embellishments), pantas, crochet headbands, crochet choker with flower/leaf embellishment, crochet felted coasters, pot holders, heart shaped coasters (which could be used as embellishments or lapel/hat pins as well).... Ok, you all have to help me, or I'm just going to pick myself (oh please don't make me make up my own mind!!!) Smiley
