1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Blogging embroidery at Craft Stylish on: September 15, 2008 04:58:09 PM
Hi All!
Feels like I've been away forever!  My last job blocked Craftster (I know! How rude!!!) and then I started working for myself and got swamped with stitching!  Anyway. . .

I just wanted to let you all know that I just started blogging about embroidery for Craft Stylish a few weeks back.  I'll be posting how-to's, projects and tips every Wednesday .  Most of the posts will be about embroidery though there will be a few forays into fabric printing as well.  Here's a link to my first post, a how-to of 5 basic stitches:
http://www.craftstylish.com/item/8312/how-to-five-handy-embroidery-stitches
And a link to my second post on organizing your floss:
http://www.craftstylish.com/item/8764/organize-your-embroidery-floss

I'll also be on the lookout for awesome projects to talk about on the CS blog.  If you see something or have something feel free to send me a PM and let me know!

Hope you enjoy my posts.  If you have any requests or recommendations, let me know those too!

Hearts and happy stitching,
erika

3  Illinois / Illinois: North / Chicago Craftsters Help! on: August 31, 2007 10:21:20 AM
Hi windy folks!

So supposedly there's a feature on my business in today's home section of the Chicago Sun-Times. Yea! The problem is that I don't actually know if it is there because I live in California. Could one of you check for me and if it is buy me 3 or 4 copies? I can send you the money for the papers and postage and a little thank you something if you could help me out!

Thanks!
erika and my imaginary boyfriend

hey all!
i did this project for cutting edge a few months back.  they told me they wanted a japanese themed design on this nylon covered lantern and then let me sew away! there are some great shots of it in the magazine (and some even greater shots of my hands in the how-to section) but i wanted to share it with you guys too!

i'd love to hear about anyone undertaking this project and i''d love, love, love to see the final results!  if you do want to stitch this and have any questions, please feel free to pm me!

7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / a portrait is a good thing on: January 15, 2007 01:09:46 PM
wow!  it seems like forever since i've had a project to post!  ever since i started doing fairs and selling online i've had no time to craft for myself.  but being busy is a good thing!

speaking of good things. . . the reason why i'm here. . . ms. martha stewart!

she's all felt.  appliqued and then embelished with embroidery.  the "wood" frame is from the sheets of felt i paint and use in bags and pillows.  it just seemed to suit for where the piece was going.

here's a close up on one of the birds, her hair, and some of the lettering:

and one more shot with moody lighting for good measure!

thanks for looking!
it's nice to be back.

hearts,
erika

8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / new portrait, new style on: July 20, 2006 05:01:52 AM
hi all!
wow, it's been a long time.  they took my craftster away at the day job and my nights have been so full of stitching and sewing for my new diy venture, my imaginary boyfriend.  so busy!  anyway, i've been trying to figure out a way to mix the felt applique that i've been doing for my design line with my love of doing portraits and this is what i've come up with.

i found the image in a magazine, it's the singer jenny lewis.  at first i didn't realize it was her, i thought it was just some model.  but as i was making the pattern i was like, "hey! that's jenny lewis, cool."  it was really just a test to see how it would work and i'm really happy with it.  next i move on to children and pets.  i hope to soon make custom portraits available on the site so i need to build up that portfolio.

thanks for looking!

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Bridal Bag on: July 18, 2006 03:28:01 PM
hi all!

it's been forever since i've shared something!  this is a bag that i made for my friend who just got married.  she needed something to carry all of her necessities the day of the wedding so i offered to figure something out.  the bag was originally designed as a clutch but she didn't want it getting dirty from her hands so she asked me to add the handle.  it looks nice but since it was a last minute addition it's not the greatest, the handle had to be attached to the flap and whenever the bag has anything heavy in it the clasp comes undone due to the weight.  oh well, next time i'll know better.

it's made from golden yellow wool felt and a piece of vintage eyelet from an old slip i'd thrifted (the bride's dress was eyelet and the colors were green and yellow).  the lining (that i forgot to photograph, gggrrrrr) is a vintage reproduction of a green polka dot type calico.  anyway, enough talk, here it is:

enjoy!
