41  chelsea horses in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by LuluB on: October 13, 2004 06:39:06 AM
well, here's my first purse attempt using amy butler's chelsea handbag pattern.  it's going to be my 10 year-old cousin sydney's christmas gift.  she's a horse girl.

the second photo shows a bit more of the inside fabric of this reversable purse

i've had a huge musical crush on elvis costello for years!  last week i pulled out my "this year's model" album and decided to show my crush to the world.  inspired by some of the beautiful work i've seen on this board and the wonderful work of ms. hart, here is what i came up with:

46  meet baku. in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by LuluB on: August 13, 2004 08:27:51 AM
i guess he belongs here.
i built this puppet for a show called Neo Tokyo Girl Crush 2040 (www.girlcrush2040.com) at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater.  i'd never really built a puppet before (well, other than sock puppets) so it took a lot of experimenting to get him right.  his body was easy, just like making a pillow, but the head kept giving me problems.  i ended up using a styrofoam sphere for the shape and papermache reinforced with fabric for the mouth mechanism.  i made the inside of his mouth like a mitten for the performer's hand.  what do ya think?

he's a little dirty from 2 months of performances.  i had to make a few repairs to him (his right eye and star were loose) so i figured i'd take his picture and share him.  what do ya think?

47  Re: 10-4 good buddy! in Needlework: Completed Projects by LuluB on: August 12, 2004 09:38:18 PM
yep, that's by hand.  i basically used a split stitch to do all the filling and the little orange lights are french knots.

here are shots of the whole shirt.  it's a giant dark blue dickies work shirt.

48  10-4 good buddy! in Needlework: Completed Projects by LuluB on: August 12, 2004 09:24:51 PM
my friend, katty, saw a shirt once in a thrift store with semi-trucks embroidered on it and wondered if i could do something like that for her boyfriend for his birthday.  this is what i came up with:

this is my first photo post, so hopefully it works.  if it does i'll post some more pics i took of the whole shirt.
