Haha, I named the pincushion Buddy, the laptop is named Toshi (as in Toshiba). But thank you.  Cheesy

This is Buddy. Buddy is a pincushion.

This is Buddy with his friend Toshi. Toshi kept me company while I sewed Buddy up from some felt. And cursed at my sewing machine.

This is Buddy's new home, on my craft desk.

Buddy's a little wonky, but I still <3 him! He's wonky because I've never made a pincushion before, and frankenstein-ed a printout of a nautical star to make my own pattern. It was a good learning experience, for sewing my first completed project flying solo. It took around 3 hours start to finish, with a good 30 minutes trying to wind a bobbin, including all the measuring, cutting, and stuffing.

He's inspired by my tattoos:

It's crazy how much more confidence with a sewing machine such a tiny project can give you. I think it turned out well for being a fussy geometric shape. What do you guys think?
3  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: A week in the life of... Photo swap round 3 (CLOSED) on: September 28, 2009 07:06:29 AM
I've got my albums! I'm so excited, they're just DARLING! And for 2.50 each, I had to get these (I think they hold around 60 photos or so).

I almost screwed up quite badly last night, I didn't charge the camera battery before we left for Venice. I realized on the train when I was taking excessive pictures of the sailboats. But fortunately, I had a backup disposable with me (grabbed at the last second while I was switching purses). And let me tell you, spending almost 2 hours looking for the Hard Rock Cafe was soooo worth it!

My photo week started today... I originally wanted to start Saturday, but I figured boxes of Kleenex and Vitamin C didn't make good pictures (blasted cold!).

Korean root canals... I know I'm in for some exciting pictures now!

I'm so excited about my partners! I should start taking pictures on Saturday, and I think we're headed down to Venice Saturday afternoon... Hard Rock Cafe FTW!

Good luck taking pictures everyone!

I can't wait for the 16th! I've decided to start my pictures after I've got my partners. And, consequently, after I Fall Clean (like Spring Cleaning, but cooler, since we've no AC in most of the apt and it's still HOT in Northern Italy) my lovely apartment and turn the junk room into a craft room. : )
8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Hookah Party Help? on: April 10, 2009 07:55:57 AM
My hubby and I are throwing a hookah party next weekend, and I'm stuck on decorations and activities. Our apartment is pretty small since it's just the two of us, so we got some cheap seat cushions to sit around the table the hookah will be on for extra seating (we have a couch, 2 big chairs, and 6 dining room chairs for those who want a cushier seat). We also bought an inexpensive curtain that I'm turning into a table cloth to protect my precious table from ashes and drinks. I'm making ribbon tags for the 6 hoses so people will be able to tell them apart. I'll be playing a lot of hookah type and chill out music, and serving some appetizers. I'm still looking for some middle eastern or mediterranean appetizer recipes (we're in Italy so mediterranean ideas shouldn't be so hard). I definitely need some more ideas to turn our living room and balcony into a hookah lounge.
