I ended up making pierogies and breakfast burritos today!
The Pierogies are filled with potato, onion, and cheese, and the Breakfast Burritos are full of hamburger, cheese, salsa, and scrambled eggs.
Oh my goodness was it worth it! I made the dough for both the tortillas and the pierogies by hand, and I made the fillings, too! Both doughs were hard to roll out (darn you small kitchen!!) but after removing everything humanly possible off the counter, I ended up with just enough room to get everything done.
Both recipes were designed for freezing and thawing, so I have plenty of foods I can cook quick, now! And considering I work late, hopefully this should streamline our late dinner time.
A didgeridoo is an Austrailian aboriginal instrument that when played makes a deep droning sound. It is usually made of a Eucalyptus branch, hollowed out by termites. It can also be made of Teak, Bamboo, and PVC pipe.
So, yeah. I like the Didgeridoo, 'cept I'm poor So Originally, I bought a length of PVC pipe and some beeswax, and voila! A didgeridoo is born.
After months of playing this plain white (boooooring!) Didge, I decided to give it some... pizzaz.
So, I'm starting a new job today, and to celebrate, made an awesome bento lunch.
Inside -Bunny rice. Plain rice shaped like a rabbit. My favorite part! -Heart shaped egg! That look a bit of work. I can't poach a heart-shaped egg -Cucumber rolls. My first attempt at sushi in a very long time. I finally mastered sushi rice, and it came out ok! -Tofu rolls. Same as cucumber rolls. -Pan-fried tofu. Marinated overnight in a mixture of chili oil, teriaki sauce, soy sauce, and oyster sauce. -Ikura gunkan maki. Roe filled sushi. I had some Lumpfish in a jar, and used that instead of normal salmon roe. -Cucumber Hand roll. The first roll I made today. Tasty! -Shrimp salad. Delicious with rice. -Carrot chips. I was gonna pack some laughing cow cheese, but i ran out of room -Hotdog heart. Two ends of a hotdog stuck together, in the shape of a heart. Yay!
So yeah. A ton of stuff, but in very tiny amounts. *Cheers*
So, I went to a coin store where they had a big bucket of international coins, as well as tokens, things people thought were coins, but aren't, etc. And I came across a coin (I think from greece) with a hole in a middle. Jackpot! I've been in love with the idea of coins braided into my hair for ages. So I decided to try. It took me about 5 tries to get it in right, originally using clips, then trying thread, then just wood glue (useful, but eventually comes out), then I tried a small rubber band.
Stays in perfectly! But its ugly. So, I douse the loose ends in wood glue, wrap some purple embroidery thread around it, add more glue, then knot it tightly. Then to cover up the not-so-perfectly braided hair, I wrapped yellow thread up above that.
The end result?
Yay! ^_^ I swear it looks much more smooth IRL. The photo doesn't do it justice.
So, I made some ginger syrup; a classic remedy for nausea, vomiting, cramps, and fever. my favorite part was making the tags, honestly
Since I totally spaced, and didn't add the recipe, here it is!
Ginger Syrup Yields two bottles (probably around two cups total)
-Two medium ginger roots, and a few small extra hunks, chopped into 1/2" coin-chunk things -4-6 cups water -2-3 cups honey (in the end, you're gonna want a 50/50 mix of the liquid and honey
1.) Put the ginger and water into a pot, and heat on high til simmering. Reduce heat to continue simmer. 2.) Let liquid reduce by half. Turn off heat, and remove ginger pieces. Pour liquid into one or more jars, only filling up to half of the jar/bottle 3.) Pour equal amount of honey into jar. cap/cork jar or bottle, and shake until the liquid and honey are mixed. Label and store in the refrigerator for 3-6 months.
So, I'm making meat pies! I used some refigerator pie crust, pot pie tins that were on sale, leftover beef and pork steak, leftover baked potato, and some broth to make a filling for a meat pie. Its in the oven right now, and it smells really good. Pictures in 350F for 30m- 1hr! EDIT: I'm back with pie!
