1  Rock Monster and Ability to be Invisible Person in Halloween Costumes by Heresa on: November 04, 2013 11:50:13 AM

This is Tobias Funke and his new lady friend DeBrie Bordeaux from the newest season of Arrested Development.  They decided to pursue their acting careers after meeting at the Method(one) "Acting" Clinic.

Me and my boyfriend are dressed as Debrie and Tobias who are dressed as characters from Fantastic 4.

My "Sue Storm" costumes had very little diy aspects to it.  The "Thing" costume is mostly home made.  I use pool noodle foam and foam supporting a computer monitor to cut it up into little rock bits.  I hot glued them to a old sweat shirt and sweat pants.  I cut some jeans into a pair of short "never nude" shorts.  Then spray painted everything orange and yellow.  My boyfriend shaved his facial hair into a mustache and didn't want to shave his head.  He put on glasses and sandles to complete the look.  The whole thing surprisingly did not take very long.   6 hours over a few weeks.

Here is a nice little map showing what that means

and here is my very own mitten

there's a little robin on it because that is the state bird
here's my mittens holding up my array of postcards

and here is my t-shirt!

the fierce St. Louis Sharks
This was my fist swap and I had lots a fun, I hope my partner (Thanks again btw) likes her stuff! I will definitely try some more swaps.

5  Nerdology *updated* Full field guide in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Heresa on: August 12, 2011 08:21:06 AM
Here is the whole book for your reading pleasure.

I made this book for a project in a letterpress class.  The project was a class book that each person made a section.  The theme was jargon, and for my section I went with nerd jargon.  I wanted to make a nature field guide, like to identify birds but with nerds.  I talked to a few of my nerdy friends and made up categories that they could fit into and some jargon. Then I drew little stick figure caricatures of each of them in their natural habitats.  I made the drawings into a plate using photopolymer.  I used various hand-set type, that took forever to set up.  I used 8 different fonts including Gill Sans roman for the Nerd title and definition.  I used Bembo and Joanna in different sizes for the rest of the text.  I don't remember what font I used for the title on the front cover. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

A Field guide to Nerds:  Easily identify and understand what they are talking about
Nerd:Individuals who avidly pursue intellectual activities, technical or scientific endeavors, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interest, rather than engaging in more social or conventional activities.

Also on the first page there is a special thanks to Shon, Chris, Andrew and the Internets (for helping me with information and being cute models)

Here is a full page layout,

Close ups of each page
Computer Nerd

PICNIC Problem: Problem In Chair Not In Computer. Secret code for the problem lies with user not technology.
VOIP: Voice Over Internet Protocol.  Process of voice communications across networks used for data (internet, email, video)
V-ROP: Advanced term dealing with networks and things that contain screens, updated frequently. (I made up)

Gamer Nerd

d20: icosahedron (20 sided die)
FTW: for the win
lag: slow internet connection causes effect in game.

Fandom Nerd:  Individuals obsessed with certain media.

Vulcan: Extratatrestrial humanoid from planet Volcan, noted for their attempt to live by logic and reason without interference from emotion.

Science Nerd:

this one is hard to read
LHC: Large Hadron Collider Worlds largest high energy particle accelerator, created to address the most fundamental questions of physics.
Procompsognathus: Genus of theropod dinosaur of the late triassic period. (also the first dinosaur to appear in Jurassic Park)
ESA: European Space Agency

and thats the end, sorry the pictures weren't so great
