21  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Pentacle protection necklace on: December 28, 2007 09:10:37 AM
That's a beautiful necklace! And congratulations on your first post.

Just wondering... what is a protection necklace? Yule is a Wiccan holiday, correct? Sorry for my ignorance.

Absolutely gorgeous! I can't wait for the video tutorial. Now, just to buy a soldering iron and flux...

I love them all, especially the rosary! Could you please post a tutorial for the pill earrings? Thanks.

Ohmygod, I loooove this! I just started making my own earrings. In the past three days, I've made fifteen pairs. I definitely need this. I think I might put cork board behind the earrings, though.
Thanks for the inspiration!

26  UNITED STATES / Washington, D.C. / Bead Shops in Northern Virginia? on: December 21, 2007 05:33:28 AM
I'm back in Northern Virginia for winter break. Does anyone know of any good bead stores in between Woodbridge, Virginia, and Washington, DC? I make that drive five days a week to go to work, and it'd be wonderful to take a bead break.
Thanks!

That's adorable! I'm really impressed that you taught yourself to knit cables. I haven't even dared to attempt. Where'd you get the pattern? I love it!

Thanks for all the encouragement and compliments! I read the Curse article in Knitty, and that sounds about right. I started knitting the scarf because I was worried about the relationship lasting, and it was doomed.

I've started knitting a scarf for the best-friend-now-boyfriend, but because of the former not the latter. I've recently discovered illusion knitting, and I love it! Knitting is so relaxing and fun; I guess the break-up was actually a blessing in disguise.
29  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Green/White Striped Scarf, Or: How I Rediscovered Knitting on: January 15, 2007 03:00:04 PM
I taught myself to knit over the summer, but after finishing my first and only project, I got distracted by college and laid my needles to rest. However, about a month ago, I decided to knit my boyfriend a warm scarf. (It was chilly here in DC at the time, mind you, not 60 degrees as it is now!) I found a local yarn shop, bought some delicious Lamb's Pride Worsted, and started knitting feverishly.

He dumped me a few days before Christmas, after deciding to do it two weeks beforehand and only after I started inquiring as to why he was acting so distant and preoccupied. I didn't know what to do with what was supposed to be his Christmas present, so I just kept knitting...

And now it's finished!

So, it may look to you like a simple, two-color scarf, but to me it's much more. A triumph over him. A celebration of my own worth. A discovery of the joys of knitting.

And, no worries, this story has a happy ending! I'm now dating my best friend, a man who loves me and appreciates me (and my growing stash of yarn).

That's adorable! I love it. And it looks like she does too!
