1  Grape Vine 'Round My Wrist [pic whore] in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by samuraikiss on: January 18, 2008 08:57:32 AM
Rather than read a book for one of my graduate courses, I made this bracelet. I used silver chain, more than forty green buttons, a silver leaf charm, and a lobster clasp. I love the sound the buttons make as they dance around my wrist.

Okay, the bracelet is a pic whore.
What do you think?

2  Green/White Striped Scarf, Or: How I Rediscovered Knitting in Knitting: Completed Projects by samuraikiss on: January 15, 2007 03:00:04 PM
I taught myself to knit over the summer, but after finishing my first and only project, I got distracted by college and laid my needles to rest. However, about a month ago, I decided to knit my boyfriend a warm scarf. (It was chilly here in DC at the time, mind you, not 60 degrees as it is now!) I found a local yarn shop, bought some delicious Lamb's Pride Worsted, and started knitting feverishly.

He dumped me a few days before Christmas, after deciding to do it two weeks beforehand and only after I started inquiring as to why he was acting so distant and preoccupied. I didn't know what to do with what was supposed to be his Christmas present, so I just kept knitting...

And now it's finished!

So, it may look to you like a simple, two-color scarf, but to me it's much more. A triumph over him. A celebration of my own worth. A discovery of the joys of knitting.

And, no worries, this story has a happy ending! I'm now dating my best friend, a man who loves me and appreciates me (and my growing stash of yarn).

3  First Sewing Project: Denim iPillow! (image heavy) in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by samuraikiss on: July 25, 2006 01:59:14 PM
I took a pair of jeans that no longer fit because of my last growth spurt, tore them up with a seam ripper, and sewed a pillow with pockets for my cellphone and iPod.

The pillow!

The music notes were stenciled on with fabric paint and later outlined with embroidery floss; the ribbon -- that matches my cellphone! -- was sewn on.

It's also the perfect size for a teddy bear!

My bear, Karma, poses with my sewing machine, Gabrielle.

That's my baby, a Singer 2638. I bought her off of another craftster, and she runs like a dream! I've been teaching myself to sew on her. My first project is a pillow.

6  Green Scarf -- First Knitting Project! in Knitting: Completed Projects by samuraikiss on: February 02, 2006 06:23:40 PM

It's knitted in garter stitch with Wool-Ease Chunky on size 11 needles. I taught myself to knit last weekend in an effort to relax after midterm exams.
What do you think? It's so soft and comfortable! Any suggestions for a second project? I don't really wear hats...

7  Wrist Pain from Knitting? in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by samuraikiss on: January 29, 2006 06:52:07 PM
I just taught myself to knit this weekend, so I've been working on my first project -- a scarf -- for about 3-4 hours each day. It's so relaxing! But my wrist has started to hurt... Am I doing something wrong? What can I do about it? By the way, I'm an English knitter. I mean, I knit in the English style, but I'm American from the colonies.

That's my scarf after Day 1. It's currently Day 3, so imagine it three times that length! I'm making it out of Wool-Ease Chunky. I've absolutely fallen in love with the color and texture. Wow, I'm gushing about yarn...

8  Ideas for Making Boxer Shorts Feminine? in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by samuraikiss on: January 13, 2006 02:26:06 PM
I have three pairs of Old Navy boxer shorts. Pictures are below. I want to make them into more form-fitting, pajama shorts.

What can I do to them to make them more feminine? Does stenciling over patterns look good? Should I stencil something on the white waistbands? What about ribbons or sequins or something?

I've already sewed up the "window" and added buttons to this one.

Shamrocks!

Plaid in different color.

Sorry for the obnoxiously large pictures. I'd love to hear any ideas you have.

9  iPod Love Stencil! in Stenciling: Completed Projects by samuraikiss on: January 11, 2006 08:56:55 PM
So, I saw this shirt at www.blameclothing.c om that I wanted, except I hate the color brown with a passion, and it's only in men's sizes. I decided to stencil it onto a black, little boys' t-shirt. Tape stencil down. Paint, paint. Wait to dry. Fix bridges. Put t-shirt on. Then I realized that I completely botched the placement of the stencil. I think it's too high.

The screen and wheel is painted with sparkly black.

I stenciled a music note on the sleeves.

Any ideas to fix it? Does it look weird to you? Am I going insane?

10  Superman Boxers! in Stenciling: Completed Projects by samuraikiss on: December 27, 2005 07:55:05 AM
My boyfriend is absolutely impossible to buy Christmas presents for. Thus, I made them!

I call him Superman.

On the left, the text said "Somebunny loves you", but I forgot to take a picture.

WARNING: Overused stencil follows.

I rushed to take those close-ups before I wrapped them. He loved them!
