11  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Adorable Cake Toppers! on: September 17, 2008 11:34:13 AM
As an avid DesignSponge reader, I noticed these today immediately and thought that some of you brides-to-be might derive inspiration for your cake toppers from them. (If you're planning your wedding and a design fan, you're in luck, Grace *of DesignSponge fame* is engaged and going through the process right now. So, I would recommend keeping an eye on her blog, as she will probably dig up the COOLEST wedding finds.)

Jennifer Murphy cake topper originals:

Wonderful "how-to" from her on how to make these cute little poppets, (there is a video link to click on this page):

These would be great to modify for a baby shower too.
I can see lots of possibilities.

kaiser - What a fun wedding! I love your dress. It's just perfect!

My turn! We finally got the professional photos today. Here comes the wedding porn...

Yea for crafty wedding-ness!

What a gorgeous wedding! You had an amazing photographer too. Fantastic shots, they each look like they were perfectly lit, yet photojournalistic. So beautiful. Loved the turquoise/red combo, great pops of colour. Reminded me alot of a wedding I went to in San Jaun Bautista. Such lovely sunshine!

Congratulations!

Awesome! Thanks for explaining that. It is those little traditions and special touches that personalize your wedding day. Love it!

Wow! Congratulations! It seems like you've been on here planning about as long as I was. So, I am excited to get to see your pictures! Everything looks wonderful! The adjective that comes to mind is "SHARP!". I love the red with pops of white, the gerbera daisies and all. The tiered plate stands worked out so well for your purposes. Mine still sit on top of my fridge with plates on them for goodies, fruit and such. So use-able after the wedding! I love that your husband wore a kilt, fantastic! I have to go examine your pics more closely - I am wanting to know what that little pop of red is on your pretty wedding dress. Inquiring minds want to know!

Congrats again! Great job, everything looked lovely and elegant.

I love it! What a great job. I think if I were to do one I would want to save the cut open scrap and hinge it or make it removable for the big reveal. Imagine kids suprise opening up the pumpkin to reveal a creeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy graveyard inside. Too much fun. Great idea!

First, congratulations! Housewarming AND engagement party all rolled into one. That is too fun.

Second, resist the urge to buy ANYTHING for your wedding until you form a good plan in your head. Do that by looking on here, reading (limited amounts) of bridal mags and just looking at things you already have (or your Mom has, etc) first and get a good idea of the direction you want to go in. That way, you won't have dropped money on silly stuff you'll never use. I can think of a few things I bought that I was SURE I was going to use and then I came up with much better ideas later on and was bummed I'd spent the money.

Third, if you're doing the shin-dig yourself, start asking around. I bought my plates and wine glasses because they were cheaper than renting - and I've loaned them out twice to brides already. Someone may just have the stuff you need laying around, it never hurts to ask.

One thing I would suggest starting on is your wedding planner book. You can keep all your ideas, dates, business cards, rental agreements and info in this book. I just had a regular old 3 ring binder and a few other supplies and this was a really helpful thing to have around!   Here's the thread for mine, I didn't buy one of the "special" ones, http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=251930.msg2802741#msg2802741

Have fun too! Don't forget the fun!   Grin
17  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Sew my own wedding dress? Am I crazy? NOW with (a few) muslin pictures on page 5 on: August 28, 2008 09:53:35 PM
I really love that neckline. What a beautiful dress it is going to be. Good for you for taking this on! Everyone will be amazed and you'll get exactly what you want and quite a memory! Congrats!

Oh, and I think a blue sash would be lovely with this dress. But, this is coming from the girl with the green band and corset added to her wedding dress!!

Oooh, the tissue paper poms turned out wonderful. All the varying shades of green look fantastic to this green-obsessed girl. Just gorgeous! Is there a story to your leaf pin? It looked great on your dress. I like the rosemary corsage too, simple and elegant and green. Looks like you had a wonderful day! Congratulations!

That is really sweet and snuggly looking. I love the colours you used and the extra attention to details on the edges makes it look really beautifully done and finished. Great job! I am sure they are going to love it and it will get plenty of use!

Envelope Mall may have what you're looking for. They carry the astrobrights paper. Is the "Pulsar Pink" dark enough fuschia for you?

Paper Source carries cover weight in their "Strawberry" and "Rhubarb" colours.
