11  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Guest speaker gift bags on: December 15, 2005 08:36:57 PM
Off the topic of the holidays, but just as urgent.

I have 15 professionals who will be speaking at an event I am helping to host. We have a $500 honoraria budget for them. This breaks down to about $30 each, and I'd be embarrassed to offer them something so little. Instead, I am offering them each a catered lunch, which will eat up $120.

That leaves me with $380 left to create a small gift bag for each panelist.

I was thinking to personalize a mug (with either their name, which is more expensive, or our logo, which is cheaper 'cause each will be the same and hence at bulk price) as the main gift. Anyone know a cheap service for this? cafepress.com does it for $10.99. Can anyone do better?

I am at a loss for what more to do, and I don't want anything to be too tacky or cheesy.

Anything I can buy in bulk? Anything I can get personalized? Any ideas for filling the mug (if I go in that direction)? Any general advice on "thank you" gifts?

Thanks for your help!
12  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Pocket Sister and Sexy Roadtrip tins on: November 26, 2005 08:38:58 PM
First craft post. Can't get pics to work, so I'm linking to the pics.

Made these two altered altoid tins today. The first is an essential roadtrip companion (wink, wink). The second is a pocket sister (xmas gift for my sister).

The toy compass works. It cost me 25 cents (from Archie McPhee). The paper I used to cover is actually scrapbook paper (16 cents at JoAnn), but you could use any spare map. The inside is no nonsense... didn't seem necessary to cutesy up condoms and lube.  Wink  This will be a stocking stuffer for my boyfriend. We'll be keeping it in the car. Let's see how long it lasts.

The pocket sister is for my sister. She is my best friend, but we live 3000 miles apart. So I made it to remind her of our times together, past and future. I decoupaged front and back with animal print scrapbook paper because I work with zoo animals. The inside is lined with stickers, has b&w photos of us, contains a calendar marked with dates I'll be visiting, interchangeable quote cards from our inside jokes, and a tiny bottle of my perfume (I've had the same perfume for years, and I get it made for me, so it is uniquely me when you smell it).

Hopefully I put some new life into this whole altered altoid thing!
