21  Re: Fibre Friday - 30th January 2009 in Spinning: Completed Projects by Faren on: January 30, 2009 02:50:33 PM
I love all the yarns, they are amazing!

Purple Splash, Superwash wool, navajo plied, 294 yards total, hand dyed by me. Made for socks. Wish there was more yardage!

Plum, hand carded by Thenutmeg2000, made of the following: Superwash electric blue merino. black alpaca, brown bamboo, maroon BFL, wysteria (sp.) angelina, and one lavendery/maroon blended roving, 212 yards, 2 ply.

The color is more accurate in this picture, plus I have to show off the left over single, not even an arms length left! The spinning goddess must like me this week!

I just wanted to show everyone, specially Thenutmeg2000,  the yarn I spun out of one of her batts.

The original batts.

The finished yarn

The color is more accurate is this picture, plus for all the spinners out there I wanted to show my left over single.  It isn't even an arms length! How lucky can you get?

Wow, there have been a lot of great packages lately!
yellowblanket: I think I will be living in these slippers until winter is over!
Love the purse, love the butterfly and leaf collage too! The tree of life pendant and business card holder are great.  The needle roll with rainbow effect is amazing, so pretty!

This is the only picture I have of "Ugly Yarn" and it isn't very good, I think yours, A2K, is actually better.

And I have to say I feel bad for calling it Ugly Yarn, just because I don't like it doesn't mean nobody will!
Thanks for the compliments!

I just received my slippers from yellowblanket and they are so perfect!  Right color, exactly the right size(feels like they hug my feet!), and so nice and warm!

The first picture is more accurate on color.  Have I said lately how much I love this swap? I get to do something I love (spinning), give away the excess to someone who will love it, and get stuff I would never actually get around to making for myself. If I actually know how to make it. This swap is awesome.

Today was a great day! I had all kinds of stuff in the mail.  Some yummy handmade soaps I ordered came in.  My swap package from OWS 41 came in and this package from Thenutmeg2000 showed up as well! Here is the first layer of goodies.

Left to right on the bottom: silk hankie(to dye or not to dye, that is the question), Yak(??), goatmilk soap(I love neat soap!), wool(??) and camel down(??) Thenutmeg2000, did I guess right?
On top there is some batts she carded up for me.  Here they are unrolled.

Other side, the colors are more true in this pic.

The second layer was these 5 beautiful batts.  I love the mix of Blue and maroon in them.  I would have never have thought to put them together, but I love the result.  They have some blue sparkle in there too.  I didn't take any pictures of the flip side of these since I thought that would just be too many pictures for one post to handle, but I did unroll them. The color range is fairly accurate in this pictures, but are darker in real life.

And finally, I had to show you this tissue paper she packaged them in, it is just so cute, and I'm not even into shoes!

Thanks Thenutmeg2000, I love it all!  I just finished plying the yarn I had on my wheel so I can start spinning some of your stuff right away.  The only question will be what to start first!

Today was a very good mail day for me! I received yummy soap I ordered plus 2 swap packages!  This one is from Mangomerle and I love everything in it!  First up, 2 heavy duty grocery bags.

A pretty plaid tote bag that I think I'm going to carry the other bags in.

And what is that down in the corner?  Why it is a wee birdy! I love the wee birdy!

On the the left is a 1/2 yard of fabric that I love, the blues and purples are so pretty. Then, a pair of scissors because I can never find any, and a wonderful spinning bag to hold my oil. Here is an action shot.

Mangomerle tells me this started out being a dragon, but I think he was always meant to be a fire breathing alligator because he is just so cute as one!  This was the first version of the spinning bag but she didn't think it would work for that.  So I might make him into a zippered bag, anybody else have any thoughts?
Thanks Mangomerle, it was a great swap package!

Hello, I've never posted on Fiber Friday before, but have loved looking at all the yarn porn! Excuse me if I get a little picture heavy.

Sunset, Hand dyed combed top from artclub.etsy.com , 4 oz, 100 % wool, 201 yds

Ocean, Hand dyed combed top from artclub.etsy.com , 4 oz, 100 % wool, 164 yds

Pretty Pastels, 100 % Corriedale wool, 1/2 lb roving hand dyed by me, 2 ply, 317 yds total

Fluffy Bunny is angora spun thick and thin then  plied with brown thread. 106 yds, not sure how strong it is, but it sure is soft!  Mini skein is plied against itself for 33 yds.

Alpaca Dreams is one single of dark brown alpaca plied with one single of tan alpaca for 162 yds. Straight is the left over brown alpaca plied with itself for 22 yards. Both about worsted weight. Not as soft as I hoped it would be, think I put to much twist in.

Sun Dappled Ocean, 2 ply, worsted wt. 468 yds total. Blues, greens, yellows and a tiny bit of orange

Berry Delicious, Merino wool, navajo plied, 1/2 lb, 585 yds total. Dyed at Yarn School.
I think that is more than enough! Sorry about that!

I received from claire313 today!

A car trash bag, I really needed this, my car is a mess!

A thread catcher for my sewing cabinet.  This will be much handier (and prettier) than the little jelly jar I have been using!  I can even close the door to the cabinet while it is still hanging there.
Aren't they pretty? Thanks claire313!!

And a picture of my cat, she always has to have her picture taken!

29  Re: November 2008 Birthday Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Faren on: December 04, 2008 11:45:50 AM
I received from both my swap partners today! And what a great haul it was too!
First, from edenkitty a beautiful glass pendant.

I took 5 pics and this is the best one.  Part of the problem is it changes color slightly all the time. From an orange gold to a green gold. If you have a better pic, please post it edenkitty. This is a wonderful piece of art and who knows how much I would have had to pay to buy it.  The wire work on it is amazing too, do you know any tricks edenkitty, or do I just need a LOT more practice? I had to wear it immediately!  Anyway, THANK YOU edenkitty, it is awesome.

From rowenlynn came a nice big package.  First thing that fell out was a whole bunch of chocolate.  The very good kind too!

And yes, I have already eaten some, but I managed to stop at one piece! It was very good, and I appreciate it as I normally don't buy those nice of brands of chocolate.

Next thing I saw was this beautiful fairy.

Isn't she amazing? And it is totally a bonus as I didn't ask for anything like that, but I love it and as soon as Christmas is over (Money is always a factor) I want to get it framed and hanging over my computer desk.  I love her rowenlynn.

Last but not least, my tote bag.

I hope you can see the dragon and his shield good, the dragon is all in shades of blue.  He is amazing too!! He is right up my alley! The stitching on the back is covered up with another layer of fabric so it doesn't get snagged.  The fabric is really heavy duty too, I don't know that I would call it canvas, but almost! Which is good, because it is huuuuge! I mean, you could hide a small child in there, and the bag is sturdy enough to hold them!  Here is a picture to show scale.

Zoey is a full grown cat too.  I might have to make this a knitting bag instead of a grocery tote, I don't know that I can stand to see is used and abused that way.

Thanks you two, I had a wonderful belated birthday today because of you two!

30  Re: *Sock Virgin* KAL in Knitalongs by Faren on: August 12, 2006 08:08:31 PM
Hey, I thought I would finally post my sock, real life has kept me busy.  I have managed to get all the way to the gusset on the 2nd sock.

sorry it is slightly blurry, I took 2 other pics (how many different views can you get of one sock? I'm proud of my sock, can you tell? Wink )  but they were blurry too.

Love the rainbow socks QueenofSporks!
I was thinking about trying the 2 at once method, but you might have changed my mind, aliciasjoy
