1  Re: November 2009 Birthday Swap Gallery and Discussion in The Swap Gallery by Faren on: November 28, 2009 11:00:45 AM
Now on to the present from edenkitty that I just got today on my birthday.  Good timing!

Very beautiful photo card, did you take that picture, edenkitty?  It is very pretty.  Here's a close up of the jewelry, which is inspired by Firefly.  That show kept popping up in this swap for me! Not that I'm complaining!  Grin

Aren't they pretty?  I love the charm bracelet.  Thanks so much, Edenkitty!

Thanks to MareMare for organizing! I had so much fun doing this swap!

I have pictures! Sorry it took so long.

The applique says, "Busy Hands are Happy Hands"  Very cute!  and see all the pockets around the outside?  Zoey (the black cat) still thinks everything is all about her, even though it is my birthday!
Stephanie drew little pictures of different things from the show Firefly all over the card, I thought they were really cute!

The inside sewing fabric.

Thank you StephanieGravatt! I love the bag and I had lots of fun talking to you!

Sorry I haven't responded before now.  I didn't respond when I first read it because it was early in the morning and my brain  wasn't functioning enough.  Then I wan't feeling good, yadah, yadah, yadah.  Sorry, Craftsy!  I'm so glad you like everything and they fit!  I used bleach with a freezer paper stencil and on the first one I tried the bleach bled underneath the stencil pretty bad.  But I had seen a post where someone had used a sharpie to drawn on  a t shirt and it wasn't fading.  So I filled in the mistakes with a sharpie!  Worked pretty good.

I thought I would put in a couple of pictures of my buttons I sent Craftsy.

The red buttons say "imagine" on them.

I'm so sorry you lost a rat, that is so hard on you and the other rat.  Are you going to get another one?  I went to a friends house Sunday that just got 2 rats and I had so much fun playing with them!  It had been too long since I've played with rats.

I received my present from PaleAngelLex today!  She sent me 3, count them, 3! embroidered dish towels.  I  certainly wasn't expecting that many! Aren't they adorable?

All three together.  Now for some close ups of the pretty fairies!

The cute card, in case you can't read it, it says -  "Day" is a vestigial mode of time measurement based on solar cycles. It's still applicable, so I got you something.       Who's geeky enough to know what that is based on?  First I went, "Huh?" Since it isn't an exact quote, but immediately went "Oh, awesome!"  Thanks so much PAL, they are a great Birthday present and I love them.  The purple one is already hanging up! Thanks for the nice presentation too, that's something I need to work on myself.  Each was tied with curling ribbon and all were wrapped up with tissue paper.  But I couldn't wait to see what was on them long enough to take a picture.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

I received from rockmygypsysoul yesterday but didn't really feel good so I'm posting now.

Puzzle book, very soft slipper socks, CD of nature sounds to hopefully help me get to sleep!, and an ice pack, which I can never have enough of.  Specially ones that will stay on as I move around. Ignore the cat butt and tail to the right, she has to lay on the white sheet every time I get it out.

Lavender Soy Body Creme, Room Spray and Loofah Soap.  Smells very good, I used the body creme after I got out of the shower and I've been smelling myself all day!

Her cute notecard and a painted mirror that says, "In the midst of winter, I found there, within me, was an invincible summer.  - Camus"  Should be good when I'm depressed, it will remind me that it will get better and I can get through it.
Thanks for everything rockmygypsysoul, I really do like and will use everything 'cept for the puzzle book, so don't worry! And mom will like that! Hope you start feeling better!

6  Pern Painting with Embroidery in Needlework: Completed Projects by Faren on: October 21, 2009 07:45:59 PM
This was made for Gleep for the Dragonriders of Pern Swap.  I had seen several paintings that had embroidery on them and loved the idea. In the books "Thread"(which is silver) is an organism that devours any organic matter, basically anything except water, rock, and metal.  So dragons breathe fire to destroy it in the air.  The fighting dragons are different colors, bronze, brown, blue and green.  The Red Star is actually a planet that brings the thread to the planet Pern.  Hopefully that is enough of a primer for you to understand the painting!

I used a projector for the map(taken from the books)and traced that.  I painted it as a topography map with watercolors. Then I took some of the pages from my DragonSinger book(one of the books) that was falling apart, cut out a dragon shape and gave it a wash of brown.  Then I embroidered it with thread, flames and quotes from songs out of the books.

Quotes are: "A Strand of Silver in the Sky."  And "Dragonmen must fly when thread is in the sky."

"Free the Flame"  Both the flames and thread has metallic thread in it.

"Fly between Blue and Green.  Soar, dive down, Bronze and Brown."  I used the corresponding color for each dragon color.

I also embroidered the Red Star in the upper right corner.  I was so proud I posted this to facebook and 2 people want a painting like it! I really like how this came out and I hope you all do too!

7  Re: Dragonriders Swap Redux GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by Faren on: October 21, 2009 05:55:10 PM
Gleep asked me to post pictures of the goodies I sent her, so here we go!  First off the small, I had a copy of DragonSinger that was falling apart and she had mentioned she likes notebooks, so I tried bookbinding.  It is kinda hard to keep the tension tight enough!  I put self adhesive clear sheets on the cover to protect it.  The first glue I used didn't work, but hot glue works wonders!

She had said she would love to have a brown dragon sculpture based on her character's dragon in her writing club.  I've had this http://www.polymerclayexpress.com/dece2001.html tut in my bookmarks for ages now so I modified it to match the Pern dragons.

The large was the project I got soo excited about.  I had seen several paintings that had embroidery on them and loved the idea.

I used a projector for the map and traced that.  I painted it as a topography map with watercolors.  It's been a while since I painted and it was lots of fun!  Then I took some of the pages from my DragonSinger book, cut out a dragon shape and gave it a wash of brown.  Then I embroidered it with thread, flames and quotes out of the books.

Quotes are: A Strand of Silver in the Sky.  And "Dragonmen must fly when thread is in the sky."

"Free the Flame"  Both the flames and thread has metallic thread in it.

"Fly between Blue and Green.  Soar, dive down, Bronze and Brown."

And notice the Red Star in the upper right corner?  I think it looks pretty and menacing at the same time.  I had a lot of fun crafting for Gleep. Thanks so much for organizing ariaya! I had posted the painting to facebook because I was so proud I had to share with someone, and two people want a painting like it! How cool is that?

Black cat not included in package, she just has to have her picture taken!

I made a post for the painting in the needlework forum.

I received from Gleep today!
First, some cute little firelizard eggs! I hope they hatch soon!  Grin

Next some great coasters that have the symbols for all the weyrs on them.  I'm only sure about Fort and Benden, I can guess at High Reaches and Igen.  How about you guys?

I so needed a hat! The one I have doesn't cover my ears, but this one does!  Hat and scarf set based on Benden's colors so I can pretend I'm a Benden Weyrwoman!  Wink  Love the colors and love the cables!

Thanks for everything Gleep! This has been a great swap!  I hope my package doesn't take too long to get to you!

Sampler top to bottom 4 colors of natural cotton, Wenslydale locks, Cashmere, tussah silk, yak and camel.  And soap! I love handmade soap!
I'm so sorry Thenutmeg2000, but I forgot to take a picture of this last one before I spun it up! I needed a break from a project I'm doing for a swap.  I didn't even think about it until I went to take pictures today.  It was very pretty! Anyway, here it is all spun up.

Superwash merino, milk protein, cashmere and black alpaca.  I'm thinking of andean plying it and using it for embroidery.

Thanks so much Thenutmeg2000! It was great swapping with you and I love everything!
Thanks for organizing again SewMamaLady!
