1  Plushies from Video Game Models *picture heavy* in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by crystalfairy on: August 06, 2013 06:27:57 AM

I created this method to turn video game models into plushies. Below is cross-posted from my blog.

I started with this awesome 3D model of a video game character. It is made up of approximately three things.

The first is a set of 3D points, to define its shape.

The second is a set of 2D points (called UVs), to define how textures are applied to it.

The third is the texture itself.

I took that model, and created a new set of UVs for it, such that whenever two sets of UVs joined, a seam will be created on my final plushie.

Using scripts that I wrote, I created a new texture, based off of the new UVs, the old UVs, and the old texture. Heres one of several pieces.

This new texture I printed into fabric and sewed together to create my plushie.

You can see more pictures on my blog.

I entered this project in the Road to Maker Faire Contest. If I win, I could go to Maker Faire and teach people how to make their own plushies of their favorite characters. I would be able to give away my code, my patterns, and free kits.

2  3D printed figurine in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by crystalfairy on: May 03, 2013 07:32:15 AM
Here's a mini-Heroe from the video game DOTA2.

I used the game's models and 3D printed them. It is printed on sandstone.

I have a tutorial here if anyone's interested. It can be applied to printing other figurines from other games, if you can extract the models.

3  3D-Printed Pants in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by crystalfairy on: March 19, 2013 10:39:41 PM
I'm not entirely certain that this post belongs in here, so sorry if I'm in the wrong category.

I 3D-printed a pair of pants for starlight mints, to create Peppermint Butlers from Adventure Time.

Basically, I modeled individual pieces in 3D Studios Max, welded them together, and then 3D printed it.

I printed two versions, one slightly bigger to accommodate the plastic wrap and one fitting just-right.

The starlight mint is a real piece of candy  Grin

4  Brood XXV Ring in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by crystalfairy on: April 03, 2012 07:46:36 AM
Cicadas are awesome. Their gentle hiss greet summery days.

Two years ago, I waterjetted rings featuring cicada wings.

I recently found them while rummaging through old bins.

I present to you: a l i o t h

It features the "opposites attract" theme in two days: a day and night theme, and the reversal of front and back of the shirt

Also, it has light up LEDs! Grin
You can watch it glow/blink:

It was super hard not to post about this.  Grin
It's my first time drafting my own pattern. I think it came out pretty ok.
It's also my first craft challenge. It's been super fun. Cheesy

7  Jace - 3D printed BJD in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by crystalfairy on: February 22, 2012 09:22:11 PM
This is an old project.

I 3D printed a ball-jointed doll, BJD, head.
Afterwards, I spray painted it.

I'm in the middle of a few other projects, so making body is on a small hiatus.
But I'm putting in eyes soon!
